Hi,

I will be heading down to Spore soon and hoping the nice members here could help me out. I would like to get a Deuter backpack and a Hi Tec/Colombia trekking shoes. Is there any shop in Sg that I can find them at a good price and choices? Thanks!

We have a shopping centre that focuses on Sports and Outdoor apparels.

At Velocity Square,, Novena MRT.

Cheers!

Check out the hawker center along Beach Road (is it Golden Mile Hawker Center?)
lots of affodable low price items and bags. (prepare to haggle)

Can check out the shop at the ground level of Shaw Building (the building where TK Foto is) along Beach Road.

Deuter is a very common brand here. Can find it everywhere including hypermarts like Carrefour! You can also check out Sports Connection.
For HiTec/Colombia, you can try World of Sports, they carry quite a decent range....

hi Colnago welcome 2 CS (& S'pore)! here's a short list for u. :)

1) Golden Mile Food Centre (opposite Golden Mile Tower)
2) Velocity Sq (above Novena MRT)
3) World of Sports (outlet shop w/ many branches)
4) Peninsula Plaza (various shops at L2)
5) Peninsula Hotel & Shopping Centre (several floors, opposite Peninsula Plaza)

wad size of Deuter backpack u looking for 25L-50L, or bigger? for such bags place no. (1) or (4) is best.

as for shoes, ideally check out (2) or World of Sports (3) or to kno d (recommended retail) price then head to (1), (4) or (5) where independently owned stores r at to bargain down d price. if those places qoute a price equal or higher than retail shops in town than u kno wad really is a gd price from wads not.

Thanks for the replies guys. Do you think the Great Singapore Sale(25 May - 22 July) will have some effect on the prices of the bagpacks and shoes? Or there will be not much different? Oh, I hope the above mention shops will sell Osprey bagpacks too. Thanks.

Ok, for the shoes, if your size is US 11-13, normally you can catch them at World of Sports at 50% discount. They clear those odd sizes quite frequently. Although will normally be at least one model old.

Of Osprey bagpacks, go to any Sports Connection. The one at Plaza Singapura is quite big and complete in the range. One thing to note. There are normally 2 price tags. The 'Original' and the 'special' price. However, normally, they will charge you another 20% off the special price. Ask the staff for it. Unless you REALLY HAVE WHITE SKINS. But, be persistant. Cause that is the normal street price here. (For sports connection)

Basically Deuter's quality dropped lately. Especially the internal linings. They tend to flake a lot now. I would advise you for Osprey. Although, the pricing is still a little on the high side.

No more liao...

If you are talking about Basecamp, yes. They have withdrawn from retail. Think their office still at... forgot. Ubi?

However, the Sports connection old flagship is still there.

I think what we lack is a central Mall for adventure stuffs. Can't lay my hands on the light raincoats and garments.

Do note if you are a tourist, be careful when u buy at Golden Mile. There are no price tags on the bags and although we locals can get it cheap. A obvious tourists might get ripped off.

actually I found tourists who know how to bargain get stuff cheaper than me.

oni for those w/ deep wallets go there, IMO. :hung:

The stuff there is quality and the guy who runs it will exchange if goods are faulty.

Also it is the only that specialises in snow gear....unless you guys know of other places?

Also try Outdoor specialist (based in Penisular Plaza) http://outdoorspecialist.com.sg/

Campers and Outdoor are across the road from each other!

You can also get Deuter from BHG Singapore, formerly known as Seiyu before it was bought over by a China company, Bugis Junction.

For Osprey backpack, you can try the Sports Connection shop at Shaw Leisure gallery.

I concur that Campers Corner is very expensive and caters to a niche expatriate and rich customers. They were still upmarket price even when it was still at Paradiz centre many years ago.:thumbsd:
