HI, I am newbie to photoshop software,
anyone knows why now these software one has to pay a monthly fee, like forever ? for Ps from Adobe ?

I thought one just buy the software and that's it, I think Adeobe is overcharging.

Anyone could help , where to get free software or per software type photo editing , that can do layering ?

Thanks in advance.

Try GIMP, open source software. But think need install add on to have some features.
If just need normal editing can use things like Picasa or software that come with the camera.

They moved to a subscription model. To be honest, as much as I hate the idea of 'renting', for Adobe it makes a lot of sense. The pinch for each purchase/upgrade used to be really painful, and quite prohibitive. For photoshop alone, I know I'd rather pay S$13/mth than S$1000 upfront (or $3-400+ for subsequent upgrades), and you get access to new features/updates as they come.

Posts above have just about covered the free alternative.s

it is worth it, if you work out paying upgrading the latest version every a year or two, it come back to about the same cost.
now I pay monthly subscription, and I can use ALL the Adobe software which I can't afford previously.

not forgetting the all update are automatic.

of course to those users thinking of buying a box version and using it for 10 years, than that is different story.
but don't forget you also upgrade your cameras regularly, you can't keep using the same software, as it won't support the RAW files of your latest cameras.

You are right,so go to sourceforge and search for GIMP plugins. They have one for sharpening, panorama
,HDR/3D,and other extensions.
