Hi,

Just wrote to Acer to enquire about the availability of the ScanWit 2740S, and here's their reply. BTW, the Comms and Multimedia division of Acer is now known as "Benq". (Sounds so much like "Beng" ;p )

And no pricing info. :(

Hi,

I did called up BenQ and the guy who answered the phone was very nice. He told me it was out of stocks but should be in on Apr 1. He asked me to leave me contact and when it is available, he'll give me a ring to arrange for a demo.

The Recommended Retail Price from then is SGD 999. The 2720s is SGD 899. I asked when the 2740 is only 100 bucks more expensive and he told me it was because the last time, the 2740 came by air freight. This time, it is by sea.

So, we should expect the unit to cost about SGD 800 in the shops.

Hopefully. Coz if it's really S$999, I'd rather pay a bit more and go for the Nikon Coolscan IV. :)

I have located the distributor. It's "Laser Distributors" on the 5th level of SLS. If you take the escalator, it's the second store on the right. It's quite a huge store.

I'll be waiting to see it. Let's all hope the guy at BenQ was right about the shipment coming by sea.

The scanners have arrived.

2740s is SGD 799
2720s is SGD 599

Is that 200 bucks for ICE only?
 

I called up Benq today and I got pushed around between 2 folks, a Christopher and a Dererick. Dererick is supposed to be the manager I think.

Anyway, I managed to arrange for a demo (by Dererick) with Chris tomorrow. However, about 15 mins after the arrangement, I got a call from Dererick and he told me they don't do demo!!!

What! He asked me to go to Laser at SLS for a demo. I very much doubt the shops will oblige with a demo. I'll still try and if i can't get one, then it speaks very well for Benq and its products.

Wah liao, I very much doubt a shop like Laser is going to do a demo. Don't even think they will have a PC setup with the thing. :( For $800, it looks like a good buy, but if they have such poor service....

That's what I thought too. I doubt Laser would be willing to give me the demo. Even if they are, I very much doubt they have the product knowledge.

It's disappointing that Benq refuses the demo. Come on, if I as a consumer can travel from Tampiness to Jurong East just to see what your product is all about, why can't you sit pretty and offer me a demo at your convenience?

This I must applaud Canon. I got quite a satisfactory demo (they are using a underpowered PC) from them at the showroom.

I work next to their building. Maybe I'll go give them a try. I do that Tampines->Jurong thing every day. ;p

Hi guys,

I managed to secure a demo today after writing in to complain. However, I couldn't make the timing and called in to make another appointment.

Benq's phone system was done from about 4pm to 5pm. 4pm was the time of the appointment. I only managed to contact the guy (Mr Derek) at about 5.05 pm.

What puts me off what his attitude over the phone. He sounded very pissed off because I had not turned up. I asked for another appointment tomorrow at about lunch time but I quote "Sorry, I have to take my lunch!".

What kind of customer service is that! I didn't even tell you what time was lunch, what if I wanted to come at 1.30pm? Don't tell me Benq staff take lunch from 12pm - 3pm!

I'm very disappointed. I very much doubt I'm going to spend my money on the scanner, no matter what.

Good luck, maybe you'll get better services at Benq.

Oh dear, looks like Acer aka Benq just lost a potential customer in Mathew aka skaven there.

What they didn't realise was that they're about to lose a string of potential customers - anyone reading this thread will be influenced one way or another. Doesn't matter if the Acer ScanTwit is/was indeed a good product, Mathew's not gonna buy it no matter what.

Another case-study for the atrocious service standards in Singapore.

Hope CK has better luck getting that demo with the Benq service staff or should i say the 'Beng' service staff?

Seriously, the "Beng" name is no good. ;p

Let me try my luck tomorrow. Busy day today. Just got back and now have 200+ threads to read. ;p But I did manage to try the Epson 2450. My views on the Epson thread which I'll post later. :)
