let me reply that for u too: i find manual zoom to be easier to use, but it depends on the design of the camera. the sony RX100 has a control ring which can control zoom, kinda like a manual zoom ring, but the camera is so compact that i find the two-handed operation to be slightly less comfortable than using the usual zoom rocker switch
however, the X10, and the XF1, are designed such that it just feels natural, and that overall experience is (in my opinion) nicer than the RX100.
oh and if ur buying now, u might as well wait for the new Fuji X20...designed exactly like the X10, but with better performance, it appears
EDIT: the S100 is a good camera, but zoom is not manual. i'd suggest the X10/XF1/X20 over the Canon if u can afford it
