The Substation Moving Images presents
FIRST TAKE
4 June 2007
The Substation Theatre
8pm, FREE ADMISSION

First Take, happening every 1st Monday of the month at The Substation, is a
popular screening of new local short films and is followed by a Q&A with the
filmmakers. A platform for new filmmakers and anyone who is interested in
filmmaking to meet, exchange ideas and show their work. See the future
talents of Singapore film!

1. WHO LOVES THE SUN / 14 MIN / CHEN-HSI WONG
On a hot summers day, three young kids are left to their own devices on the
streets of Los Angeles. Over the course of the afternoon, their adventures
spin brutally out of control and they are forced to question the nature of
their friendship and actions. This portrait of three unusual children is a
study of youth on the edge of adult consciousness.

Chen-Hsi graduated with an MFA from the University of Southern California¹s
School of Cinema-TV. She was awarded the James Bridges Scholarship for
Excellence in Directing, the highest directing award in its time. She also
worked on two Academy Award nominated documentaries in New York prior to
film school. Who Loves the Sun has won several awards, such as the 2nd
Prize for the Malibu Celebration of Film and Fotokem Student Filmmaker
Award. She is currently based in Singapore.

2. MURPHYS LAW / 5 MIN / WYNNE CHEN, DAVID TAN & GRACE TENG
Murphys Law in action a tongue-in-cheek short comedy.

David and Grace are currently students at Hwa Chong Institution and are very
passionate in filmmaking, and using the visual language to express their
ideas.

3. A ROMANTIC MYSTERY OF MONSTER MAT RAWK MAYHEM LADEN WITH MSG / 5 MIN /
SHAUN KOH
A thriller? A mystery? A social satire?

Shaun has made three films this year: Risk, Lady in the Vamp and A roMantic Mystery. Lady in the Vamp won 2nd Prize at the Canon DV Triathalon and Best Editing and Best Creativity prizes. Risk was made for the National Council of Preventive Gambling. Shaun, who graduated from Ngee Ann Polytechnic¹s Film Sound and Video course, currently produces TVCs, short films, and corporate films.

4. BOB / 14 MIN / FAI RIZAL ALIAS
No girlfriend, no life, no worries. Bob is a simple man who is contented
with his life of mundane routines and boring habits. From the moment he
wakes up till he rolls back into bed at the end of the day, it seems that
Bob is pretty much happy with his amazingly boring life * that is, until his
mood changes and his emotions subconsciously get the better of him. The
question is: why the sudden change, Bob?

A practicing video artist and an aspiring music video director, Bob is
Fais first short film debut, which he wrote and directed. Being an
independent director, Fai has future collaboration works with independent
artists and musicians in the pipeline set for 2007.
He recently won the 2006 RESFEST/MTV Music Video Competition, and will be
directing a new music video for local band ELECTRICO, set for release on MTV
Asia later this year.
