A Last Minute Photoshoot of Mio

Last minute request and arranged by an old friend whom both Mio and I know. As she is going back to Taiwan, she smsed me to ask if I wanted to shoot her this morning. So together with an old friend, I brought her to ECP for the shoot. Finally got to exercise my FA43 and FA77. :devil:

Here are my few cents.

1. The model looks a bit flat in terms of exposure vs bkgnd. If you want her to stand out, she either needs to be exposed more. To do this, you have all the options of :
1. Reflector
2. Simply placing the model nearer the edge of the shade or look for more flattering light
3. Flash

I like pic 2! I find the tight framing is ok(mayb i like it this way).

I think you really have to know roughly in mind what kind of portrait effects you want when you are at the location. For practice with your family members, you can start with the in-built camera fill flash technique first(some ppl will reject this straight away, but its there now for u to try.), if you are not happy with the result, move on to a reflector (i prefer those 5 in 1) if subject is behind the sun or under the shade. Use it for several times until u feel it's time to upgrade for an off flash technique. And don't forget, remember to do some research on "what kind of tools does what" prior to purchasing new toy. Google or youtubing is your best friend.

can't say i'm very much impressed by these either (especially the first... i'll leave it to you to feel what you feel about that expression):

anyways, comments on photos:

1) try to concentrate on the composition first and foremost

2) you seem to be neglecting light - strobing is not really a MUST for model photography, really - as far as i know, these were not taking with flash:

most of these seem to be placing the model in the shade, when there is better light in the bg that i can see.

Thanks Keat. Most of the shots are with model in the shade. There are more with the sun in the background or near her. Will post these later. Still trying to convert DNG to JPEG in Photoshop/Lightroom and struggling with that.

Yes, i agree the 1st one is :dunno: She did all the poses and I just shot her. She knows I never did photoshoots before so she did all the guiding. Seems I have a lot to learn to master my FA77mm.

Shade must have been my idea (teacher lah). As it was about 9 plus in the morning and the sun was really hot, we made do in the shade with the light in front and behind her. Even my old friend agreed to the shade as he did not want her to burn.
