Nikon 4500.
Canon S40/S30
Minolta F100
Olympus C730
Fuji 601z

I believe the guy's budget is 1k.. let's not go over that, shall we?

heard that AP the S602z sold at $1100, so still around 1k, can consider! ;p

btw, s602 may not be so good in night (low light) shooting... :(

S30/S40 do not allow the attachment of adapter, filters etc.
Ask yourself if you need these stuffs.

Well, there is not such thing as "the best".

Ask yourself what you want in a camera.
Night shot? Zoom? Colours? AF speed?

You have stated your budget: 1K
Now you need to know what you want in a camera.

Good and powerful.

How good? How powerful?

Good? S602Z has a pretty good AF speed (But suffers from low light focusing issues). Panasonic Lumix has a even faster AF speed. (And someone is selling if i am not wrong)

Powerful? Olympus C730Uz has a 10x optical zoom. So does C700Uz (but it has a noise issue)

Macro ability? Nikon CP 4500 does great but doesn't have a flash hot shoe.

So you see, you need to quantify what you want in a camera. Each will always has it's pros and cons. :)

Hope this helps you in some way.

I agree with wolfgang. U need to tell us more abt your needs and the kind of subjects u r most likely to take. Only nite shots?

Also if you budget is just strictly 1k, then u better decide on a cam that costs ard $800 cos u need to get additional accessories.

But thinking back, since you mention you want one that takes "good" night shots (again, how good? Must have bulb mode? ;) ) Canon G2, Fuji S602 has pretty decent night shot ability with low noise and graininess.

:)

Dun forget u need keep some money to get a decent tripod. ;)
Canon G2 should be able to produce better quality with less grain at ISO 50.

G2's ISO 50 isn't quite ISO 50. More like ISO 100.
