A Breather

Taken in Hong Kong near Causeway Bay Construction Size.

Canon 450D Tv No Flash in Daylight at 105mm

Post Process with CS3.

I guess in this picture I wanted to achieve a few things.
1) The environment that the immigrant worker works in
2) The much needed breather since they usually are worked really hard.
3) The hard labour has taken a slight toll on him.

B&W with colour popping to highlight the subject.
Background is essential to show the work environment.

Something which I forgot to consider after I took the picture, the other person sitting behind in the scene. He might actually make a better subject

your subject is not isolated well enough, there is too much going on in the picture, so even with selective coloring, chopping him halfway is not conducive for your composition.

anyways, i would not bother using selective coloring here. better to capture a better angle, you can even try asking them for photos. sometimes they will oblige.

More than that, there are a few more guys in the far end.

Desaturate and history brush use does not do justice to your intention.

Should have put more effort into subject composition, perhaps at that moment of photography, you're quite scared/worried. Better try next time.

I guess sometimes its just spur of the moment shots.
Only to discover it later on when you finally view the pictures.
A little like walkabout photography I guess.
Not scared to ask people for pictures, but I guess sometimes I thought pictures be nicer taken at their "natural" state.

Be more aware of angle and subjects in future.

With the current stressful situation, I am very skeptical about taking streetside people's picture. Never know who has got a nervous breakdown...when comes to " take it or leave it ". I'll decide on the latter.

As I see nothing that would assist in changing the photo to waht you intended, why not put colour back to the telephone box and have everyone guess what you meant :bsmilie:

i would've shot only this guy's head in portrait, bokehing out the front and back metal railings and the focus on his expression. nice attempt nonetheless.
