a better moon? shot just now at 6:08 am

the slightly blue hue of #2 adds to the mode. I need to try this out man.. but I don't have my 70-300 anymore :cry:
Do u need any other attachment, special lens to take similar shot? Tried before but the moon always over exposed & not as big as in GriGri's image.
Perhaps will try again using GriGri's settings ...

Hey i'm newbie okie! first time dslr user~~~
PornStar, i used Sigma 70-300 Super II, hand held.
yanyewkay, the sky at that time is actaully much brighter than that, but in order to have the correct exposure for the moon, it looks dark.
AixisOfJustice, i used only the camera + lens + lens hood, extra attachment... is my hand grip strap counted?
I at first used 3D Matrix metering and like you said the moon is over exposed and left with a bright spot. later i realised that such metering take the exposure of the whole picture into consideration instead of the moon itself. so i start to use spot exposure after that, putting the moon at the centre focus bracket. and got the much better exposure. Regarding the settings, as far as your metering mode is correct, either P or A mode should be fine.
For me, I used aperture priority. since there is no stable support of tripod or monopod, I tried to keep the shutter speed above 200. and according to the photos i took, best aperture is around f8-f13, so i adjusted ISO to around 250-320 to get such settings.
Regarding the size of the moon, of course the photo went through cropping, but to have better clarity, it's not a 100% cropping, i crop out the moon with picture width of around 1100 and resized to 800.

Btw I did noise reduction to the 2nd picture using Turbo Photo. Got no idea why the backgroud become so 'dotted' when the photo is enlarged.
