Its been a while since I do some workout. So went out to the gardens to enjoy the beautful morning, fresh air, morning sun and birds. Also, learned not to believe the weather report wholeheartedly from radio.

These are all done in one early morning's work out.

Tiger Shrike
This is a passerine bird of the family Laniidae which is known for its habit of catching other birds and small animals and impaling the uneaten portions of their bodies on thorns, so that it can tear them into smaller, more conveniently-sized fragments.

White-throated Kingfisher
White-throated Kingfishers as a group eat a wide range of food, but each bird may specialise in a particular prey. They take fish (particularly during the wet season). But other prey make up the bulk of their diet. These include tadpoles, grasshoppers, lizards, insects. They basically take any small creature that they can catch and kill.

Female Common Kingfisher
Common Kingfishers usually perch on a convenient branch or pole about 1-2m from the water surface. They plunge into the water from their perch; or hover before diving in. They have keen eyesight with polarising filters to cut out water reflection and better see their prey. They also learn to compensate for refraction. When they plunge into the water, the eyes are protected by a membrane. So they actually catch their prey blind, relying on touch to decide when to snap their bills shut. They then fly straight out of the water with their prey in their bills.

Blue Tail Bee Eater
Bee-eaters catch their prey on the wing. They look out for suitable prey from a tree branch or high wire (about 7m and above) then swoop down onto it. They snap up their victims with an audible click, their long, narrow bills keeping these dangerous prey a good distance away from the eyes. To get rid of the sting, the insect is vigorously whacked against the perch. Or simply squeezed to get rid of the venom.

Setup: Track pants, track shoes, BMT green t-shirt and socks.
These shots are cropped. Have to do this again to get a full frame on them as its real fun looking up old friends at their branches. haha

They are beautiful. The bg of the tiger shrike is fantastic. There seems to be a halo around the bird's head.

Looking at them made my day.

:)

Thanks everyone (jc1, wong1979, Composition, Mendis, philliptan, Autumnite, Case and wilis128) for your kind words.

These shots are taken early morning at Punggol Park. It is the first time, I see some of these species there in the morning, which is why I say its a beautiful morning. :)
I try to work on the compositions and colors on these shots to compensate on the lack of details thru the cropping.

wilis128, thanks for the tip. Think you are right as I rechecked the color again.....many thanks.:)
