our 40th national birthday, i feel it is rousing nationalistic ground sentiments in preparation for general election. nothing more.

well... for me..

when i was taking the firework pics... i was standing at the bridge.. overlooking the CBD,and as the figher jets roared past me, i suddenly had this patriotic feeling inside me. and when the singapore flag flew past...

and yet again.. i know... 1yr has passed, and my love for singapore is still the same.

ooh well...i am patriotic lah... simply love singapore. tats where i am born and where i grew up....

Agreed completely... hey i wonder what will be their strategy this time round?   free moola? re-draw GRC boundaries? or imprison all opposition parties? :bsmilie:

It means:

40 years of evolution from

- $1.50 noodles to $5 noodles
- 20% CPF contribution for employers to 16%
- Permanent jobs to all contract jobs
- 0% GST to 3, to 4 to 5% and going up
- 25c bus fare to 63c
- $1.40 board taxi fare to $2.40

And... more.

how's that for a report card for the ruling party!

Well, National Days had always been as such.

Military weapons as a show of might on display, doesn't it occur in every country including the favourite bastion of Democracy - United States? (except they show it everyday. Ours only once or twice a year).

40yrs and u guys get HDB flats to stay instead of the kampong house with leaky attap roofs.
40yrs, value of money goes down.

On this island where no natural resource exists.
On this island where enemy bombers can carpet bomb the island flat in 10mins.
On this island where a single atomic bomb will wipe it off the face of Earth.
On this island I'm born, on this island I shall fight, die and be buried.

Nationalistic u guys might say, blindly patriotic u can say.
No country, no society, no family and no YOU.
Think abt it. Don't associate all things Singapore with our ruiling party.

Bus fare was 5 cents per English mile.
My pocket money was 10 cents per day.
I walked to school every day in order to save the 5 cents bus fare.
