Problem solved!

I noticed that my 40D has had a black spot on the pictures recently.

I suppose it might be fungus, but the camera and the lenses (18-55mm and 55-250mm) have been kept in a dry cabinet ( DB-036, occasional use) for abt a month now. It is at the appropriate RH (45), and whats more the spot appears on the same area for both lenses, so it must be something to do with the body.

I've tried the Dust Delete Data thing, but it doesn't work.

Can anyone advise me what to do? Thanks!

it's probably dust on your sensor. try using hte following methods

1. use a blower
2. buy some sensor swabs, or simply send it to CSC for cleaning at $20+

Not too worry too much. It should be dust if it's black spots.

Just follow what antacid has mentioned.

Canon CS does a wonderful job of sensor cleaning. Worth paying the money if you're not sure how to go about doing self-cleaning. (surf web on this subject).

btw, there is a firmware upgrade for 40D, and make sure that you have the latest installed. It doesn't cure the black spots but it sure fixes some technical problems. See Canon's support website for details.

I locked up the mirror and indeed, there was a medium-sized speck of dust on the sensor.

Some blowing with a blower I found got rid of the dust, now just in time for my Fri

photoshoot!

LifeInMacro: About the CSC, I will take note, will go there if this happens again and I can't solve it.
