With so many 3rd party lenses in market, surely there must also be a 3rd party body manufacturer too. Does anyone know if there someone out there manufacturing a body (full frame perhaps) that can use both Nikon and Canon lenses? I have a whole bunch of Canon FD lenses sitting at home that could use a digital body . Pentax screw mount people would benefit from a digital refresh too.

For digital -
Fuji has cropped sensor bodies for Nikon
Kodak has full frame bodies for both Nikon and Canon. I am not sure about the use of FD lenses, you probably need an adaptor.

how is it considered 3rd party body?

if i am using sigma system with nikon/canon lens, wouldn't that make nikon/canon lens a 3rd party lens? :dunno:

Have never heard of a third party body. This is a first. ;)

Kodak has FF digital bodies that can take N/C lenses
Fuji has the S1 Pro, S2 Pro, S3 pro and S5 pro and takes N lenses
Sigma have their own mounts too (only Sigma lenses)

:dunno:

But, you can use FD lenses on C bodies with an adapter from eBay. Same for screw mount lens for N and C bodies. P users have a screw to K mount adapter for our screw mount lenses to our SLRs/DSLRs

Canon and Nikon are experts in optics but when it comes to processor and sensor technology, I'm sure there are more specialised companies out there. Just like how Sigma has lenses the same lens but in Canon and Nikon mount flavours. I'm dreaming of someone coming out with a high quality weather sealed camera, 25MP full frame sensor, DIGEXSPEED 5 processor, for all sorts of mounts.

Not sure about weathersealing or other gizmos, but the RED's DSMC is supposed to be the latest modular camera of a kind even down to using Canon / Nikon lenses, and closest to what you are asking. But price is crazy for typical users.
