freeware/shareware will be difficult, unless you don't mind poor quality graphics. For realistic graphics, there's a good reason why places like 3dStudioMax charge so much.

There are so many applications there, I do not know which is the best user-friendly /simple one. If there are drag & drop furniture & etc, then that will be nice. Need to draft the concept by next week.

IF you have probs with the 3d softwares, you can always use THE SIMS game to help you layout the room and furniture. I'm sure it's alot faster than using 3d softwares, cause you'll still have to light up the room and render the pictures out.
