Hi guys, I am buying this 2nd hand Canon EOS 450D Body Only at $700 alongwith the following:

Canon Original Battery, LP-E5
Canon original Battery Charger
Canon original neck strap
8gb SDHC Card
Canon bag

The camera is 18 months old. What do you all think? Good enough deal?

Dude. Seriously. Can you stop asking the same questions over and over again? Just buy or don't buy!!

I just want to know my fellow ClubSnappers' opinions before buying what. It's my money which is ultimately being spent and I have every right to ensure that it is spent in the best way possible. If you have too much money to spare, then very good for you. Not everyone is as rich as you!

It's not a matter of rich or poor. It's a matter of forum etiquette. You are opening one similar thread after another in a general, "all brands" section of the forum.

I apologise then. Since it's my first DSLR, bound to be a bit scared before buying. Cos I not sure how to check the camera and so on.

Around $600 is the going rate. Depends on whether you think the additional $100 for warranty is worth it.

you make marrying the right gal so easy. :bsmilie:

you need to know what you are looking out for. it's not about what accessories you are getting for your money. it's about testing the camera to make sure it is in a decent working condition i.e. censor is ok, no dust on censor, the body has not been abused, seller looks honest enough, buttons no malfunction etc.

rashkae is right. dont spend so much time pondering on it. time is money.

talk also no use....the TS has been bitten by "There must be somewhere cheaper..." bug.

what the TS can do is search the previous sales of 450D and usually for the price what is included in the package.

Well, no I am not despite giving the impression of being so. If I was like that, I wouldn't be buying a Canon itself, would have gotten myself a new Pentax K-x or a new Sony A-330.

The camera is 18 months old. Plus, I get 2 years warranty remaining. What do you all think? Good enough deal?

i think sooner or later you're going to have to learn to grow up and make your own decisions. cheers.

Absolutely. And all that comes with experience. And experience comes with having a DSLR, which I never had.

experience at buying 2nd hand goods has nothing to do with whether you have owned a dslr.

buying is an entirely different thing from photography.

it's simple logic, if you think the price is right, why do you need 800 other people to tell you it is wrong?

if you think it is wrong, why do you want 800 other people's opinion to see if it is right?

in the end, it is a zero sum game, i find all these "ask your opinion" threads so very pointless. might as well ask whether you should date a girl and list down all her characteristics, what you have done together, and ask people to decide. so let's say if she has armpit hair and 12 big moles covering her face, and you like those, and the rest of the world doesn't, who cares? you like it right, the decision already has been made when you asked for people's opinion.

just look in B&S at the going rate. if it is higher than the going rate for body only with 2 year warranty, then don't buy. if it is lower, then quickly try to secure a deal while being polite and not too pushy. if it is on par, then there's nothing to sweat about, right?

it is THAT simple. you don't need to own anything to learn how to buy it. :dunno:

I don't think it is that simple. I don't know about you but I have a very tight budget to adhere to. And I need to get a lens and dry cabinet on top of the body. By that time, I'll be almost broke. I want to gather the opinions of others first cos you guys definitely know more about the ongoing prices and what may be a good deal or not. It's simple: if you want to help me, you help and I'll be grateful and will help back in anyway that I can. If you don't want to help, I'm fine as long as you don't come to complain in my thread or whatever.

Thank you for taking the effort to search and paste the links here. I alr checked those out and actually I may have missed an impt point. The market price is indeed around $600. However, is the warranty worth an additional $100? And is it possible to have 2 years of extra warranty? If yes, is it provided by Canon or the shop where it was bought? I thought can only have extra 3 months warranty when register online.

you tell me, who's going to value a warranty on a second hand good?

you? canon? me? the old wise man on top of the mountain??

for the extra warranty, googling "canon extended warranty singapore":

http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=311605
http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=326055

can be either.

checked out canon singapore site:

http://www.canon.com.sg/section/customercare/extendedwarranty-dc.jsp

now that you know the pricing, you can ask the seller if it is harvey norman type or canon time, and take it from there.

Well, you answered my question. I didn't get the idea of googling the extended warranty or even searching in CS.

Thanks man!

TS,a few days ago,you asked:Canon 500D at $950.Worth it?

Now,you ask:450D at $700.Should i buy?

So in a few weeks time are you going to ask:Canon 400D at $450.Worth to buy?:bsmilie:

A pentax k-x with lens cost $7xx, brand new.

The 2nd hand 450D body cost $700? Lol if u buy lens it'll cost more than the k-x already

Congrats for paying more for a 2nd hand camera which cost more than a brand new k-x. The k-x is much superior than the 450D btw. They're a totally different class.

Theres a sony a350 package with lens, selling for only $550 in BnS. And a350 is better than 450D as well.

Well, at least u r making the seller happy.

TS,

If you have to be worried about the price of the 2nd hand item and keep worrying about whether you may kenna "chop carrot head"by the seller, perhaps you are not a person to buy a 2nd hand item. Cheap as it may be but you will keep worrying if the product is defective in some way or if you could have gotten it cheaper...

I suggest you look at something of other brands, new which cost less than the 2nd hand 450d. For $700 with body only, you will minimum need another $100 or so for any lens to play with , and it may well stretch the budget too much ... and you stop worrying about hidden agenda of the 2nd hand seller

The other way is, why even a dSLR? If budget if tight, buy a nice P&S, like LX3, s90, FXR200, FZ35 etc, learn about the various settings/composition/post-processing etc ... it will last you a few years , perhaps then you may find buying a dSLR more affordable :)

Having said that I paid $1200 for my 450d new and love it , but that is for me only ;)

I know you will have fun shooting whatever you get !! Cheers !! ;)
