One man's meat is another's poison. It is best you try it out yourself.

For me it is the tamron 28-75. Price is so low that the ratio is very high.

if for pro usage, needless to say is Nikon, save all you can and get one.

anything else just spend on what you can afford, not what you want, you will be a happy man.

for 3rd party, in this category, i second and third the tamron.

but really, performance-wise, nikon. whenever i go out with it, the pics justify the cost (and weight) premium.

I recently acquired a Tokina 28-70 f/2.6-2.8 Pro II lens. Though it's an old lens, its optical formula is based on the Angenieux 28-70. Great tank-like full-metal build and good optical performance for the price. :D

I saw a copy for sale but that is very big piece of dust or something on one of the middle elements.

Should cost around 350-400 nowadays.

My bro bought a copy before. It has a strange yellow cast over which I tot was a WB issue. Now I guess he bought a lousy copy from an irresponsible seller.

I got mine for $430. Was in quite a good condition.

Oh dear, sorry to hear about that! I think this is a very worthy lens if you can get a good copy.

buy a nikon 24-70mm and you won't think of upgrading from there cos there nothing for you to upgrade anymore except a new release of example of 24-70 nikon vr. Humans are always going for the best at the later stage. Of cos, it my preference.

Congrats. Although the Tokina Pro I and IIs are good, I still feel the tamron is slightly sharper and the tamron is not that much more expensive new. So in the end, I gave up on the search for the tokinas and bought the tamron instead.
