Is it really feasible to use the 24-105 f/4 L lens for doing indoor portrait? Say in a malay wedding where I have to take group photos or portraits indoors, will this lens be too long? I'm using 40d with a flash mounted by the way.

I considered this over 17-55mm as I heard being too wide will cause vignetting, as in face will look a little "fish-eye" effect. Is this true for this lens? I would love to take some candid shots but 17-55 does have its zoom limitations. Should I really consider 24-105mm?

For full frame, yes. But for cropped sensors, 24mm end will not be wide enough for group/table shots.

17-55 would be better for you if you are taking group photos
