The AF-S NIKKOR 24-85mm F/3.5-4.5G ED VR is a highly versatile lens with a focal length of 24-85mm, making it ideal for shooting in a wide variety of situations including landscapes, portraits and snapshots. The lens also offers an extensive set of features including vibration reduction (VR II) to provide camera shake compensation equivalent to a shutter speed increase of approximately four steps, the Silent Wave Motor (SWM) for quiet autofocus operation and two focus modes - M/A (autofocus with manual override) and M (manual).

The AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR is a high-power zoom lens with a focal length of 18-300 mm and a zoom ratio of 16.7x, allowing a wide variety of shots from wide-angle to super telephoto with just one lens. The AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR joins the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR II and the AF-S NIKKOR 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR to enhance the high-power zoom lens lineup. It is also the world's first interchangeable zoom lens for D-SLR cameras to offer the world's highest zoom ratio* of 16.7x, compatible with the DX format. (*Among interchangeable lenses for D-SLR cameras (As of June 14, 2012))

cool..was expecting the 18-300 to be typically F3.5-6.3.
Should this make another another good all in 1 travel lens for people who only want to carry a single lens.

More power to Nikon! The original Afs 24-85g 3.5-4.5 was quite cheap & good, trust this version is even better. Should be great alternative for those not needing the pro & ex 24-70 lens.

The 24-85 VR may be a useful lens for casual snapshots (travelling, etc) with the D800. At least for such a purpose, one doesn't need to pay as much as the 24-120 f4 VR (about half the price?) -- provided the image quality is not too bad. That said, I can't imagine using the 36MP D800 for casual snapshots :)

If the 18-300 IQ is equal or better than the 70-300 VR, then it is worth some consideration, since it will be a convenient travel lens. Else I will still stick on to my uber sharp 70-300VR. Looking at the sample image from Nikon, it does looks pretty good.

Price is out at: Nikon AF-S Nikkor DX 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens 2196 B&H

Can imaging you're honding the 450mm in DX crop mode ha ha

not VR for nothing.

but seriously, 450mm at F5.6...wow. one lens really do all.

hope the 24-85 is at a good price.. haha

Yes , and the 24-85mm going for US $599.95 = S$780 . that State side price before shipping .

Wonder how much for local set ......

The 28mm f1.8 is slightly cheaper locally after conversion as compared to US price. Hopefully, the same applies to these 2 lenses too.

Well, a lot of ppl do buy the best cam and save on lens .. just like ppl buying bmw but find ways and mean to save on erp, parking, etc ..

Just seen a bmw 5 series park by the cte shoulder early morning just before 9am, to siam the erp .. what the hell , join by a fleet of motor bike doing the same thing ..

then ppl don't need to change lenses anymore.
But I doubt the quality is better than 77-300 at 300. The quality should be equivalent to 55-300.
