How about processing it further to give a 'grain' effect?
Rough, untamed, raw.

A smoke trail may add interest to the photo, camouflaging the dull background.

a sense of motion to the pic may be jus right to give it a added punch

motion outside the window would be good
a looser crop with more of the interior of the car and smoke from the ciggy would add to the 1972 effect, if that is the effect that you are after.

also as mentioned above more grain. And burn in the right side of the hand

sorry for my ignorance. but what would burning the right side of the hand do? what kind of an effect will that acheive. can someone please enlighten me?

"burning" is darkroom lingo for
exposing more

so burning the right side of the hand will hopefully bring back more details in that area.
