Depends very much on what I'm shooting.... and what type of camera I'm using (FF or Crop)

i using 400D so i have to chosse 10-22, if i get the 17-40, it wont be wide enough for me due to the 1.6x

Depends very much on what I want to shoot? :dunno:

These are different lenses for different purposes.

i suppose the 17-40mm is a L lense ?

I was also facing the same problem...
But I have decided and got my 10-22mm...Since I dont have any plan for FF yet...
Is a very WA lens...and I love it so much..!!!

Take a look of this..
I took many pix using this lens..
but selected these 3 pix....
Still learning to use this lens...

Pls C&C.

Yes, but so what?

If it doesn't fulfill a purpose, L or not, it is of no use. Remember, you buy lenses to fulfill purposes, not to fill up a range in focal length.

Exactly... well, if it helps, the EF-S 10-22 uses multiple aspheric elements and a super UD element – characteristics of the 'L' lenses.

Since i am using a 1.6xLF DSLR, I would say the serve different purpose. hence, it all depence what's the subject and what kind of effect you want in your pic. Anyway, I own both because to me, they compliment each other well.

10-22 on a cropped camera gives you 16mm FOV at the widest end in terms of 35mm

17-40L gives you around 26mm FOV at the widest end.

which one do you need?:)

a chance for me, definitely 10-22;p

EF and EF-s
i would go for EF 17-40mm

17mm is definitely not wide enough on a crop body, I bought a 10-22mm y'day and I love it.

with 10mm, the picture looks dramatic right?

with 10mm, the picture looks dramatic right?

or it looks very bad, because of improper use. a lot of people end up just shooting ultrawide without proper composition, end up with photos with too much space, or photos which are messy due to the huge amount of elements you need to include in your frame.

using a 10-22 now.

will switch to 17-40 when i upgrade to a FF camera.

but lens for lens ....i like 17-40 better....

if you're using a crop body you should try out the 10-22
you'll love it
