1024x768 or 1280x1024 monitor resolution?

Guys,

When you design a webpage, do you use your current monitor resolution, or you would consider other people's lower or higher resolution.

I like setting my monitor to 1280x1024 resolution. So, when I design my webpage, everything looks nice at this resolution.
But, when I view it on monitor having 1024x768 resolution, it doesn't look so nice anymore (to my liking).

I run at 1280x1024 at work, and all our web pages are designed for a minimum of 800x600, no problems there. Set a maximum width in your web pages, e.g. we use 760 pixels for 800x600. For 1024x768, you might consider a max width of 960 pixels or thereabouts. Do not attempt to use the full area of your browser on your machine. Also helps NOT to have your browser maximized like 99.99% of the people out there. To avoid changing resolutions all the time, you can use a tool like BrowserSizer to size your browser to the required resolution.

also be aware that 800×600 and 1024×768 have the same aspect ratio, whereas 1280×1024 is not! to get the same shape you need to set to 1280×960.
