Here is a link to an article from digital caneraworld. While it says this is for the CANON cameras, I'm sure most of the tips apply to all DSLRs in general.

Most of these things are described in the camera manual and some things are not applicable to certain bodies (e.g. Q button). If people don't take time to read the booklet they won't read this article past page 3 anyway.
