Hi

I need to buy a new head for my sherpa 600R, but don't know what size it is?? 1/4 or 3/8.
I'm getting trhe Manfrotto 460mg which is 1/4 and essentially need to know whether or not I need an adapter. I had a decent look on the site and couldn't find anything....
http://www.velbon-tripod.com/sherpa.htm there the tripod on the site if you can find it on there,
and the heda that came with it is PH-157Q which is at teh very bottom of this page http://www.velbon-tripod.com/panheads01.htm

hope you can help....

Why can't you just remove the head from your exisiting tripod and look at the size of the mounting screw? :)

I believe all SLRs have 1/4 inch tripod mount so if you can attach your SLR directly to the tripod's center column then your tripod uses 1/4 inch also.

Hope this helps.

well it fits my camera so does that def mean its 1/4?

thnx for yahelp

What camera do you have? I believe all 35mm SLRs, DSLRs and compact point-and-shoot have 1/4 inch tripod mounts. Medium format or larger cameras will use the larger 3/8 mount.

From the image of your tripod, I also doubt that it would be a 3/8 inch mount.

Finally, just use a ruler to measure the diameter of the mounting screw on the center rod of your tripod. 1/4 or 3/8 indicates the diameter of the screw in inches. There is a big difference between them so you should be able to tell.
