Managed to catch it today.

This is a total reboot of the James Bond series. Back to his basics as Ian Fleming's driven, knuckle headed killer in Her Majesty's Secret Service. The text book style of earning his 00 status with 2 kills at the start. No more classy & charming 007 with his toys and fancy wheels. It's all raw! No Omega watches with built in lasers. No missiles in his Aston Martin but a very sophisticated First Aid Kit. There's a lot of depth and intensity in Casino Royale with the amount of emotional darkness in Bond. The show also highlights Bond's recklessness and egoistic approach which leads to mistakes being committed.

The latest installment is more of a reality than fantasy compared to the prequels where there's always a super villain whose intentions are to dominate the world (Dr. No, Elliot Craver, Colonel Moon), this installment focuses of terrorism which is very much happening around us today.

Really kept me cringed to my seat for the 145 mins.

This is the first 007 movie where both Bond girls die.

The real James Bond would not say "I love you" !!!!

Both died? Bondring...man...

I personally wouldn't recommend this movie to my friends, unless they're die-hard Bond fans. The dialogue was cliche and at times very corny. The verbal sparring btw Bond and Vesper on board the train was fake and overly-theatrical. Don't even get me started on the Bollywood-like love scenes...

The movie wasn't very well edited- the tale isn't told very well and parts are pretty disjointed. Give me Sean Connery or Pierce Brosnan anytime!

i find it sucky too... the storyline i catch no balls, althou i kinda feel for the balls of james... wasn't really nicely narrrated and cut.

dun even know got 2 bond girl... hmm... thought the other 1 just for few seconds nia...

very very slow movie imho... its trying to be like batman begins but just lacks the oomph...

Hmm... Makes me wonder if real spies in real life are so cool.

Pretty exciting to be a spy. Ever thought of becoming a spy? :D

this is one of the best 007 movie in the james bond history (at least to me).
killing is more straight forward not like the previous 007's soft killing.
and some must have scenario appears in a different time and new presenting format:
1. "Bond, James Bond" becomes the last sentence of the movie
2. actually I feel this time got only 1 bond girl but not 2. both bad and good spirits are merged into 1 girl.
3. use comparison during commercial advertising: use FORD to compare with 007's super car, use rolex to compare with omega, and the watch even never appears in the movie, normally there must some devices come from the watch. Sony this time pay a lot, laptop, digital camera.
4. james is caught by the boss again for sure, but this time is naked~ 007 is naked!
5. the inventor (old man) did not appear, the actor is dead?

anyway, it is quite good for me, worth to watch if you have watched few 007 movie before.

The original actor for Q died in 1999 and since Q never appeared in the novel for Casino Royale, he din make an appearance naturally. This is a story driven movie, not an action driven like that of the earlier 4 Bond movies.

Q's role is more of a Quartermaster role - supplying Bond with his gadgets. If Bond 22 is another action driven movie (which makes the whole show a no-brainer), Q will make an appearance (the guy who's acting as Q shld be R).

This show's like 75% dialogue, 24% action with 1% chick scene. So its not really a show for action movie freaks.

ya 007 leh...

hehehehehe... abstract art...
The gun barrel protected the cylinders fortunately....

Gun barrel break can repair, cylinder break the gun's good as gone and 007 will appear as a woman next. :(

It is said 'based on the novel of Ian Fleming' in the beginning of the movie.. I wonder is this Casino Royale is actually a story of one of Ian Fleming's 007 novel?

Or is it more appropriate to say "character who based on novel of Ian Fleming?"

Well, I will say it is an okay movie, but somehow i still think bourne identity is better..

There is a scene that bond arriving the club, and 2 girls in tennis suit turned their head to look at 'charming' bond, but next he was mistaken as a car attendant.. Well, quite ironic mm..just a movie i guess.

Suggestion, wear blue pants & yellow shirt, walk around in Cold Storage, see what happens. ;p

i like it. 1st time i watch a bond movie twice! :)

Ian Flemming did write Casion Royale. However, most of the Bond movies, are based very loosely on the original book, and few, have absolutely nothing much to do with the book other than the name. Goldfinger is probably one of those that are closest to the original book.

That said, Ian Fleming wrote only 12 novels and 2 collections of short stories.

Btw, Casino Royale was infact the first of all Bond novel.
