Before We Forget (Facebook page) is organising a photography competition to foster conversations about dementia. The theme of the contest is ‘Inside our Minds’.

Some projects by photographers inspired by dementia include: Suk Yi Yee’s Dementia, James Estrin’s Mental Twilight, Maggie Steber’s Memory, and Isa Leshko’s Elderly Animals.

The best five photographs will be printed on postcards for distribution throughout Singapore at nursing homes, clinics, and other health facilities. They will also be displayed in two public exhibitions at Vivocity and the National Library Building (pending confirmation) in September 2011.

Email your captioned high-resolution photographs to insideourminds@beforeweforget.org by 1 July 2011 with your full name, telephone number, and email address.

By sharing your photographs, you agree to release it with a Creative Commons license. Others are allowed to share, transmit and distribute your story freely for non-commercial purposes, on the condition that they cannot make changes and must attribute you when they use it.

About the campaign

Before We Forget is a youth-led initiative that aims to foster conversations about dementia, and is supported by the Lien Foundation’s Life Before Death campaign.

Please remember to include a short caption for each photograph you submit, and send us the original hi-resolution image. Thank you!

We have been getting emails and suggestions, and have broken down the competition into 4 themes. Bob Lee, a photojournalist who has brought to light many social issues, has also stepped forward to contribute his time. The best 5 photographers will now win a Photojournalism Workshop with Bob.

Please go to the new post for more information.
