krw's impression of Nikon's new stuff

Wow! I'm pleased to see that there are people in Clubsnap that are also critical of Mr Rockwell! I must admit that though I hate his 'my way or the highway' opinions, his articles are rather fun to read for laughs. This is probably his worst and most nonsensical article...

    is the z10fd any good?

I agree. The Z100fd has image stabilisation which the Z10fd does not have. However, I believe the cost difference between Z100fd and Z10fd can be $100-$200.

    Unforgettable Jolene

The pictures are OK except that you've composed all of them with the model right in the centre. I feel that the picture with her next to the window could be framed better with the 'rule of thirds' composition.

    ~~Girl Interrupted~~

I too find the umbrella and the head on the left distracting. Have you tried cropping to show just the kid?

Is this lens good for golf shoot ?

Just a note about photographing golf: You did not mention whether the golfing event is a competition or just for fun. Golfers require concentration and they can be distracted by slight noises, even if it's just the sound of a camera shutter. Try not to photograph a golfer when he/she is about...

    Best start lens

I feel a 'starter' lens should be something cheap but yet versatile. I would have chosen the 18-55mm as a starter lens but based on what's stated in your list, I'd choose the 18-70mm. I believe beginners in photography should start out in modest equipment as the hobby may be a passing fad...

    choosing a Nikon DSLR

For best picture quality: choose D40x. If you need autofocus with all AF lenses: choose D50, D70, D70s. The D40x can only autofocus with AF-S lenses. The increase of megapixels from 6 to 10 does give you some flexibility when you have to crop an image.

    Nikon D40x or Olympus E410?

Can you increase your budget and wait for the Olympus E510? It comes with an internal image stabilization feature that Nikon doesn't have. That is worth paying extra for.

    Nikon D40 or olympus E500

I'm going to throw a spanner in the works in this discussion: do also consider getting a Pentax. The Pentax K10D is a bit too much for your budget, retailing about $1400. But the K100D retails at $1065 with a 18-55mm lens, if you are willing to stretch. Why a Pentax? These are the...

Is there any possibility of sending an Exilim camera for repair beyond the operating hours of the service centre at Gateway? I don't want to apply leave just to send the camera in. By the way, they open only from 9am to 6pm, Mondays to Fridays. They are even closed for lunch. I've a...

    :: My iPod and I ::

I think the photo is fine. I like he soft lighting and the vignetting. What I'd do to make it even better is to smooth out all the creases by the tanktop on your back.
