Caught in between 2, or maybe 3

@lsfchris, no one seem to have answered your question on the remote cord socket (I'm guessing you're referring to this when you said "PC sync"), and remote power socket in front of the flash. These are used with a compatible external battery pack (e.g. SD-8A, SD-9) to shorten recycle time and...

Safe to buy from SLR Revolution???

I bought a DSLR from SLR-R, got a Kingston card in a "loose" package (which did not concern me as I wanted to use it to test the camera anyway). I later bought a digital P&S from Funan (purchase-with-purchase), that also came with the same type of card in the same type of packaging, and they...

    Nikon D7000 Firmware Out

I may be wrong, but I'm guessing AbangR was referring to "Pitch Black" the movie :bsmilie:

    For a beginner

tkp77 gave a good summary but I'd like to give my take on it ... $300 extra for the 18-105 kit lens is a good idea, it's a useful range and the lens is not crappy. In fact, to me it's sharp enough, and I'm not a pixel peeper. It's light enough as a bring-everywhere lens ... the 18-55mm is...

Important note when purchasing Nikon ML-L3 at some camera stores

I bought one for $16 today, cash. You can bargain at many shops other than perhaps Challenger.

    shutter count on new dslr

I just bought a new D7000 ... first shot I took in the shop was DSC_0001, and when I checked it on Opanda, it showed that it was shot #1 in the camera as well.

The best and light medium format set?

This thread has spurred me to dust off my Holga and stick a roll of film in to shoot something ! I'm also playing with a Rolleiflex, but that Holga, with the right expectations set, is a fun camera.

    Rolleiflex film sensitivity setting

Yes, I did do that ... check one setting on the meter, then change the film setting on the knob, then point the camera at the same source again to see if the meter changes ... doesn't seem to. Maybe it's just a "reminder" kind of gizmo, on what type of film you use, rather than something that...

    Rolleiflex film sensitivity setting

I mucked around with the knob, and it really doesn't seem to change anything, but I'm surprised why it's there, very unlike the engineers of old to design something in that's non-functional. The light meter idea is sound ... I used to have a Sekonic 508 that I sold away, I wish I had that...

    D90 kit package worthwhile ?

25-30% is a bit on the low side though ok (normal recommendations are 30-40%), some say that a too-dry environment will deteriorate the seals, but what about people who live in dry climates, e.g. desert ? So don't get too hung up on the numbers, your hygrometer may not be that accurate...

    D90 kit package worthwhile ?

Despite what many pros say, my personal experience is that even an el-cheapo tripod is better than no tripod in some situations. And a corollary to that is having a light, cheap tripod that you bring with you on a trip is better than a well-built, heavy, professional tripod that you leave at...

    Rolleiflex film sensitivity setting

Hi Sabrewolf, thanks for that, the camera does have a light meter from what I can see, you can calibrate several settings to achieve the recommended results from what can see (and read off the manual), but I haven't put it to the test yet. My guess is that the film sensitivity knob may affect...

    Rolleiflex film sensitivity setting

I'm reviving my uncle's old Rolleiflex 2.8E (just got it CLA'ed, it was in such a derelict state that it cost the equivalent of a decent digital P&S to fix ). And as cameras should not belong in a display case, I'm going to dip my toes into MF photography ... first thing I'm going to do...

    D90 kit package worthwhile ?

I'd suggest you spend as little as you can. The bag is a highly personal choice, and you may find something that suits you better later, so why pay $129 for it now ? Battery-wise, shoot first, see if your shooting pattern requires you to have another battery before you have a chance to...

    AFS 300mm F4

A 300mm f/2.8 will be huge and obtrusive, the 300mm f/4 is a decent lens. Having said that, you did not indicate what kind of a concert you are shooting, and how far away you will be. If you really need f/2.8, perhaps the 70-200mm may be a more versatile option.

    My S2 start problem-ing liao

Re: batteries ... easiest way is to just grab a bunch of standard alkaline AAs and check out how many shots you can take on a fresh set till the low battery warning pops up. In any case, I do use CR123s anyway, I get the perception (not scientifically measured :bsmilie:) that focusing is...

    Fatigue Lens Cleaning Course

Big thanks to Chee Wei (the organizer) and David (the expert) for the class. It was a good session, and I personally learnt quite a few things ... not the least the fact that to be good at disassembling, cleaning and reassembling a complex lens takes a lot of practice, something that cannot be...

    Exchange Semester to USA

Oldie but goodie ... Lowepro Photorunner. Can handle cam with 1 lens mounted, plus room for 1 or 2 more, and has a front zippered pocket as well. You can also stuff that into a nondescript backpack that does not scream "camera bag !" ;)

    Need advice

My advice: if there's no better offer/alternative right now, take the job with a positive attitude, and if you find that it's not what you want, then look for another one. Having decent pay while you're looking is a luxury that many don't have. The key is your attitude ... even if you...
