    close-up with my s3is

Did you crop the photo? With the DCR250 the background shouldn't look this messy. Also, watch your exposure as all the whites are blown. A flash would actually help as you'd be able to control the lighting. There are various ways of lighting with an S3IS. You could use a slave and set it up like...

    Macros With Canon S2

Thanks to one and all for the comments. mendis and tchuanye, you are both correct. Some pictures have a warm tone because my homemade omnibounce gives a warm glow. But I've finally been able to find the right colour calibration and it's now much reduced. I still ensure it's a little warm to...

    Macros With Canon S2

Haven't been posting, so I guess I'll post a few. Canon S2 with close up filter and slave flash. Will start with the latest shots. Mostly at 1/500s. Have to admit I've been lazy at adjusting the speed which results in a lot photos with dark backgrounds which I just do not like. 1. Female Lawn...

    The fly

Lovely details with great lighting. Nice! Is it full frame or some digital zoom from cropping? I think it's one of the biggest fly photos I've seen.

    Botanic Gardens

Funny, for F2.8, the background is kind of sharp. Did you put the lens at full telephoto? Anyway, I think the lighting has to be diffused. Also, cleaner backgrounds. 2 cents.

    Ghim Moh Macros

Woah cool! The shield bug has a very nice bright green smooth background. Think the omnibounce is a really good investment you made. Did you get another close up filter? seems like your shots of insects are getting larger too.

    Barnacles

Shooting macro in black and white is kind of odd. Cause normally what we want to see is the detail, including the colour. Unless there is something superbly special such that removal of colour is necesssary. Also, your barnacles are empty. Would be much more interesting to have a close up like...

    Canon S2 IS - Ratio 3:2?

If you want to do the cropping in photoshop. Restrict your ratio to 3:2. Should be able to type in on the top left hand corner. Normally that's what I do so that the shops do not crop and spoil the composition.

    macro compact

I'm not too technical but never let the fact that you have a compact camera deter you from taking fantastic macro shots. A close-up filter like the 250D and 500D allows you to go nearer which in some sense achieves 1:1 magnification (our CCD is much smaller), if not higher depending on the...

Best areas for Macro in Singapore Notanical Gardens?

For Singapore, it really isn't about where. It's about slowing down and moving slowly and keeping a sharp eye. Also, choose your timing carefully, mornings and evenings are great times. You'll be suprised at what you can find simply at your neighbourhood even. Looks for thick bushes and shrubs...

    Long Legged Fly

Here are three pictures of long legged flies. Not of the same fly of course. Which one works best? I think these flies are wonderful to test flash set ups. Any shadow will show with these critters. Canon PowerShot S2 IS + Raynox DCR250 + Sunblitz Slave Flash Wondering if I...

    Robberfly

Wow, one of the best shots I've seen of a robberfly. However, a little too centred for me. Perhaps move more to the right to give more space between the tip of the leaf and the picture edge.

    Some from AH ..taken today....

Yeah cool shots man. Love the portrait of the fly. And it's quite cool to see the individual facets of the dragonfly eyes. The yellow butterfly does look a little odd facing away from the camera. But the yellow is really bright and nice.

    Yellow Stink Bugs

Can give details where you shot it at? Never spotted it before. Anyway, the flash does make your picture looks harsh, but it's sharp.

    Macro for CNY eve

Eh, it's in botanic gardens. If I'm on a rush, that's where I'd head straight for to capture bugs. Otherwise, the entire garden is quite a playground.

    Macro for CNY eve

Went all the way to plant house only to remember that i forgot to replace the batteries. But managed to squeeze out 30 shots before it died on me while I was trying to capture a dragonfly. I need someone to help ID this. And which one is better? I'm still trying to figure out...
