AE lock stands for Auto exposure lock which works for the semi auto modes like AV TV P when the camera handles the exposure. In manual there is no exposure computation or handling from the camera because you are setting the shutter and aperture yourself. The bar you think is exposure...

agreed! MF on these lenses can be a pleasure provided you are not shooting fast moving subjects

The lenses were'nt mine. No AF confirmation when i was playing with it. The AI-S D lenses didnt need any electronic feedback to function thus problem free.

Nikkor AIS 50 F1.4 D and 85 F2 Worked perfectly fine on my 6D.
