Yes I do go up to different groups and ask them if ok to take their picture. Usually they are ok.

As I was using the 24-70, I set shuttle speed at 1/80 to reduce chance of blur image as my hand not very stable. You can probably do with slightly lower speed, depending on your lens used. A lot of trial n error for me. Test quite a few shots before deciding on that and turn off the flash too...
