the sigma also does AF hunting quite a bit, but felt the tamron might be a bit slower and having used the sigma for some time, i must admit that the OS on the sigma is not that excellent, so if OS/IS/VC is very important to you, the tamron might be a better choice online sigma sample pics...

i tot the mirror remains flipped up during live view? it does flip down and up everytime you take a shot though, but didnt really think it contributed much to the shutter count. having said that, i still refrain from using live view.... somehow i have this idea (probably wrong) that exposing...

or are you referring to the Tamron AF 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC LD Aspherical? i've looked at both lenses for a short while (did not rent) and ended up getting the sigma instead. also did quite a bit of research online. i can't really remember the price for the tamron but its quite similar...

btw, such high ISO values for PnS camera probably will give quite noisy images so should not really be taken into consideration?

if you dont mind changing lens, then canon 55-250 is a good option that you can get <$400 first hand otherwise if you want 2nd hand, can look for the canon 18-200, sigma 18-250, tamron 18-270. that said, image quality might not be so good for these all in one zooms, although price range...

constant aperture lenses definitely come at a premium other than the convenience of not having to worry too much about exposure settings when you zoom in and out, i think the more important reason for getting one is to consider under what kind of conditions you are going to use this lens for...
