    Yosemite National Park in winter

Thanks for dropping by! :) The National Parks are simply some of the most amazing places, deserving of the title "America's Best Idea".

    Yosemite National Park in winter

Sorry I didn't reply earlier, have been MIA from CS for quite a while. We drove from Lake Tahoe to Yosemite, then to Palo Alto, so I'm not sure about things along the way between Fresno and Yosemite. We had one day of great weather, 2nd day was cloudy and snowed at night, and 3rd day was great...

    Long Exposures and Overheating

Just making use of my time overseas. ;) The 30min star trails were not very long, I'd say I got roughly 25-30 degrees or less than 10% of a full revolution around the north star. I might try for 1hour total exposure next time.

    Long Exposures and Overheating

Can't speak for the K-x, but I've tried a 30+min exposure at ISO100 for star trails with the K-5 before, and it didn't turn out too bad. The noise was perfectly acceptable for me, maybe comparable to what you'd expect at roughly ISO400-800. But I think stacking does give an additional degree of...

    Dust in view finder

Don't take the focusing screen out till you're sure it's between it and the pentamirror/prism. Try just blowing on the bottom of the focusing screen first with a blower, and see if it comes off.

Photos taken by Pentax cameras for tech. discussion - Season II

I would use AF-C too if I was waiting and planning for a BIF shot, but this was really impromptu... FIF? I think I know which ones you're talking about, but those are near impossible! By the time I hear them jump out of the water and turn the camera towards that direction (esp. with a 300mm)...

Asking for Advice on a walkabout lens.

Zoom, 90mm on the long end, with macro? Don't think there's such a lens... Maybe the closest thing will be the Sigma 17-70mm, or Pentax DA17-70 (not sure about the max magnification on this though). Don't forget, jack of all trades, master of none. 70mm is not long enough when you really need...

    Fisheye lens

With $800 budget, definitely DA 10-17mm. Small and light, got AF.

    Final space shuttle launch

Yup, the part I like best is when you actually hear the roar of the thrusters after a 50s delay... Was using a 300mm with a 1.5x TC, but still had to crop like crazy to get this framing.

Photos taken by Pentax cameras for tech. discussion - Season II

Couple of BIF taken with the F*300mm Wasn't quite ready when the brown pelican flew past, was set to M mode, 1/400s, AF-S, keeper rate was 2 out of 6. Actually, that day I wasn't out to shoot birds, was really out for this: More photos here...

    Final space shuttle launch

Forgot I can add these pics too. Information on the launch pad And the launch pad itself. Too bad we were there too early, they hadn't put the shuttle there yet. They only rolled out the shuttle 2 days later.

    Final space shuttle launch

Thanks for dropping by. :) Yah, the previous night didn't look promising at all, but the weather actually got significantly better in the morning. If my friend hadn't called me to go, I would have just given this a miss due to the uncertainty....

Another Jaw dropping review and images from HarkLee with the DFA 25/4 and 645D

The pics are not as stunning as those in his previous thread reviewing the 645D when he first got it. But they're still unbelievably amazing... I will keep dreaming of the day I can produce pics like that....

Tamron and Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 Autofocus Speed Comparison

What about how quickly they actually lock focus? ie how much hunting or hesitation focusing at a target, say 3m away?

    Final space shuttle launch

Lots of people took to the water to get a closer view. Looks like some sort of big paddling event It doesn't look it in the picture, but it's pretty hard work paddling upstream. Actually the launch was more than a week ago, and the shuttle's landing back in Florida in less than half a...

    Final space shuttle launch

Hey, get out of my way! Into the blue skies... (whatever little of it there was) Can see the cones of condensation Poof! Into the clouds...

    Final space shuttle launch

Some time ago, I posted pictures of what I thought was space shuttle Atlantis' last flight. But eventually NASA managed to secure funding for one more shuttle mission that gave Atlantis one last lease of life. This mission, STS 135, is definitively the final shuttle mission. It's a pity that the...

Does Sigma 30/1.4 for Pentax come with HSM?

I'm probably not a good person to ask, 'cos I think 30mm is not a focal length I work well with, something I learnt after holding on to this lens for so long. But technically, I'd say that the lens is not bad, it's sharp even when wide open and AF speed is good. But I still have some problems...

Does Sigma 30/1.4 for Pentax come with HSM?

Mine is an old copy, but the Sigma website doesn't say anything about this lens having HSM for Pentax, so I doubt that there's any change there.
