Hi all,

Can anyone who has the experience offer advice on the pros and cons of X1D vs H series? Seems like X1D is kicking the H6D 50 back.

A friend was JUST asking me this. Seen it on the main page and thought I'd chime in since I had already wrote to him.

A different user experience. OVF vs EVF is still the same argument no matter what brand/camera you compare. Personally I don't like using even the best EVF in a studio environment. The X1D I feel works well with a lot of natural light, say window light or outdoors or etc. It's also easy to travel with and hike with too. I feel that hand holding it all day walking around a European city is what this camera was built for. I don't get any fatigue it's like someone who actually knows the pain of holding camera all day designed the X1D to just feel wonderful. Besides the X1D is much lighter so more of an obvious choice for hand holding all day.

As for lenses no point in comparing since the X1D can use all the HCD lenses AND the smaller/fantastic XCD lenses. The 90XCD is a real winner IMHO I just love the look I get from it, followed by the 30XCD (my favourite wide to date). The 30XCD really pops like a higher res/better quality 21SEM lens from Leica. And the 120XCD is great though a bit slow with focus and no 1:1 which sucks. The 45XCD is the weakest link in the line up but even that lens has its charms if you want a walk around lens it's also the smallest for the system now and in the foreseeable future.

I think it's obvious I like the X1D, it's now my favourite system of all time. My only real gripe is that for studio work EVF isn't ideal. BUT I still use it in the studio because I cannot justify owning a H6D-50c or 100 or etc when I own the stellar X1D system (which again is just more versatile because I travel a lot for work and like having a HQ camera with me at all times [replaced my M love]).

If you want more technical comparisons again it's difficult since X1D can use H6D lenses and they both share the same sensor and the menu system of the H6D is very similar in use to the X1D. IMHO the H6D has better iPhone app support, I don't know why. Bottom line, studio work you can easily limp by (by comparison only, the X1D is perfectly fine in studio) with the X1D but the H6D will shine, outdoors it's the exact opposite, you can limp by with the H6D (w/strong wrists) but the X1D will excel.

Hope this helps.
