I would rather go to Bali instead of Thailand or Malaysia. Plenty of places to choose from over there. If it's only a weekend trip (2 nights/3 days), it shouldn't costs too much.

Try replacing the batteries first. Unlike the FM2, the FG is not 100% mechanical, so if the battery is dead...you can only use M90 and Bulb.
