Pretty sure those pics are taken along the cycling track in bukit timah nature reserve. From visitor's centre, enter the cycling track ( downslope side, not the upslope side)
You will soon go upslope again, then just keep a lookout, the ruins will be on your left.

i lost touch with all the computer hardware so I cant really help. But would like to advise u to backup all your important files/photos cos from what you described.. your com is not in very good shape liao :)
and if you are particular about shutter count, bring a laptop with the necessary exif viewing programs to check on the spot. dont end up like me getting a "new" set with 2k+ shutter count. Then have to go back and change the next day.

you can try punggol.. all the way into one of the tracks.. preferably to have own transport though.. go on a weekday and most probably you wont bump into anyone there
