Thanks for the help Reportage. I've been wondering whether the advice on using lubricating oil for ballheads applied to normal heads too.
As for the tripod, it is a 2nd hand Canon SL-1200 bought off a fellow CSer (my first tripod). The tripod weighs only 1.15kg & my camcorder weighs 800g, so no matter what I use for the head I have no peace of mind when I put the camcorder on the tripod. So I think I'll just go replace the entire tripod when I get the money.
So now, I'm looking specifically for this kind of tripod:
- Cheap (hopefully $100 or less, though I'm not sure)
- Sturdy
- Heavy (around 3kg weight or hopefully more). Weight is not a problem for me.
- Head has smooth movement, or is otherwise easily removable so I can get a better one
- Reliable - Won't break or die on me
- Has a bubble level
Any recommendations?
