If you are talking abt the plain partial or spot metering (non matrix), the camera will assume 18% gray when u meter 100%light(white) or 0% (black)... there fore leading to underexposure and overexposure respectively. It would be your job to add exposure compensation +1 to 2EV, -1 to 2EV...

For Canon, only L lens come with hood... even the expensive non L lens like 100mm Macro EF 2.8 also got no hood attached... Sad thing is they price those hoods at almost ridiculous prices

helo, My guess is because of the flash sync speed? Any way.. if really need flash, 1/1000 1/250 shouldn't make much of a difference ( assuming ure in place with poor ambient light), as the duration of flash is probably ard 1/1000 thereabouts...
