well in that case it's down to your photography style what. if you shoot lots of portraits and candids then you wont miss the wideness of fx. similarly, if you like the wide end, you wont miss the lack of zoom on the FX. also, if you plan your picture properly, you shouldnt have to do much...

dont forget that the 35mm and 50mm have different perspectives.. even a 35mm that is 50mm equivalent on DX. many people forget that that 35mm is not exactly suited for portraiture, the perspective is just not as natural or flattering.

the missing thing is your subject.. the lines lead nicely into the middle but there's nothing there. for example, a buildign or statue. but you only have empty space.

i dont think the 35mm f1.8 is quite right, that is because while the viewing angle is about the same as that of a 50mm lens, it's perspective is still that of a 35mm lens (ie. abit wide) hence, the thing about this "feels like the right proportion" perspective with the 50mm will not exist for...

id recommend a smaller aperture as the background honestly didnt exist, you might as well ahve taken them against some random wall..

i got the 1.8, then sold it and got the 1.4. yes, the AF-S is going to be the only one left if you dont move fast. i personally feel that the 1.4 is worth the extra $250 or so, although the marginal improvement might not appeal to u. the AF-S version is abit better than the D but it'll cost abit...
