Looking at the leaked press text from 43 rumors on the Olympus E-M1 Mk3
..New image processing engine [NEW]
..20.4 megapixel Live MOS sensor (not new)
..World’s best image stabilisation (7 stops) [NEW....slightly less than E-M1x]
..High-speed, high-precision autofocus [NEW?]
..Face Priority/Eye Priority AF (not new)
..Starry Sky AF [NEW]
.SSWF (Super Sonic Wave Filter) (not new)
..Handheld 4K video [NEW]
..Weather sealing (not new)

It seems to have a mix of new and old features.
From the released E-M1x and pending release of its 150-400lenses with built in 1.25 TC
(can zoom to 2000mm with 2.0TC), it is quite clear that Olympus is going to focus on
its strong point of super-tele advantage.

- the 150-400 is equal to 300mm to 800mm on FF camera and this is a superb range for
birding and wildlife photographers plus the 7 stops & faster tracking enable handheld
shooting of moving animals with ease
- reaching up to 2000mm with 2x TC is good for Astro photography, and that is why
the new Starry Sky mode

Like the E-M1x, I guess the E-M1 Mk3 is targeted to the users for the above photography
but prefer a small body with a detachable vertical grip.

Personally, I am using EM5 Mk3 at the moment for street photo, hiking, macro and occasional
birding as the EM5 is very light and weather sealed. The E-M1 Mk3 does not really appeal to me
until I have more time to spent on wildlife and astro photography :)

What do the rest think?

The following are FT5 rumour prices
217800yen is about S$2757
with 12-40 F2.8 Pro it's 283500 approx S$3589.
The rumoured 12-45mm F4 Pro is 74800Yen is about S$945

Price for the Olympus EM1-Mk3 is definitely high @ S$2757 (about US$2000)
compared to more capable DSLR bodies of other brands.

Hope Olympus will come up with something very special on 12 Feb 2020:p:p

We’ll have to wait for the official announcement but it doesn’t appear to be a big step forward for E-M1.2 owners.
But for other users, I think it refreshes the lineup with some good refinements.
In Nikon speak, it would be like a +10 or ‘s’ model upgrade similar to eg. D800->D810 or D4->D4s.
But what I’ve learnt from these Nikon upgrades are that the sum of lots of small refinements produces a significant improvement that’s not reflected in the spec sheets.
So I’m hoping that would be the case for the E-M1.3
But if it was, perhaps a better name would be E-M1.2 Rev B or something, to curb outrageous expectations.

Well it's here.
Previews are up on all the major photography sites.
Interestingly its launch price in USD is $200 less than the Mark II although current street pricing in the US is much lower of course.
ShopatOlympus website is showing the Mk II at $1998, down from RRP of $2848 SGD. I wonder what local pricing will be like for the Mk III and whether they'll have any launch specials.

The launch price is lower than the Mk II because no flash is included with the Mk III

I am just wondering, what are the attractive features that will move Mk ii users to upgrade to Mk III?

Did the Mk II pricing include a flash? Which flash unit was it?

Anyways, SG pricing just came out. $2698
$2398 pre-order special with 32GB SD card and extra battery free gift.
That's not bad.

I think it might not entice too many Mk II upgraders but Mk I holdouts and older generation E-M5 users perhaps.

The EM1-MKii and other earlier models including my EM5 Mk3 comes with the FL-LM3. I like it quite a lot as it is very small, uses the camera battery so no need to bring batteries, so I have it in my camera bag most of the time.
Great for back light compensation and travel macro with a diffractor (for those who attended the Olympus Macro class, you will know what I mean). Anyway, I do have a bigger flash for events :)

But taking away the FL-LM3 flash for the EM1-mk3 is not a deal breaker, as I guess most people don't really use it.

Anyway, where did you get the Singapore pre-order pricing?

By email from Olympus Singapore. Check your mailbox if you’re subscribed.
Preorder Feb 12-29 but like the E-M5.3 preorder special, I don’t expect this to last the preorder period.

With the Fujifilm X-T4 coming, I think even $2.4k for the E-M1mk3 is going to be a tough sell. I am still waiting for the E-M5.3 to offer the preorder price as I missed it. If it doesn't come any time soon, I think I will just sell off all my m43 gear.

You are slightly cheaper with the current exchange rate. We are offered at RM7299 with free 32GB SD chip

MSRP is 1598 now. Maybe around 1500 street?

The X-T4 is a good alternative. But I think MSRP1598 is in US$.
so it is X-T4 S$2237 vs the EM1.3 @ $2398.

I have jumped to other systems before. So just remember to
cost in all the lenses which you think you need.

Looks like it's a major save for me. No GAS attack. Not for another few year anyway.

I am trying to justify whether it is worth it to upgrade to EM1.3 from EM1.2 or EM5.3.
All 3 are using the same 20Mp sensor with ISO from 200-25600, with 121 Focus points.

The EM1.3 has a faster processor and slightly better IBIS of 7 stops (the EM5.3 has 6.5 and EM1.2 has 5 stops).

From DP review, these are the key take away
  • Gains Live ND and Handheld High Res modes from the E-M1X
  • TruePic IX processor brings improved face/eye AF and Starry Sky AF mode
  • 2.36M dot LCD offers fast refresh but poor contrast and low resolution for this level of camera
Unless I am going to use ND filter and Handheld High Res (which I use only once in a while),
l don't seems to find any major feature to move me to upgrade. Did I miss anything?

All in all, I feel that the EM1.3 is only a minor upgrade from EM1.2 or even EM5.3.
Have actually hoped for more significant features or a better deal (lower price or bundled lens etc).

I wonder how well Fujifilm's IBIS works.

I wonder how well Fujifilm's IBIS works.
I think all brands of IBIS works pretty well, having tried Olympus, Panasonic, Sony and Canon,
but no Fujifilm (dont have any friends that has the X-H1).
Generally, when it goes beyond 1/2 sec, it takes practice for the correct
posture and breathing etc.
