No love for the E-M5 mkIII?

Tony and Chelsea Northrup video. Watch from 10:40 to 18:40. A salient point they made is: Never ask a company's executives whether the company is going to shut down/wind up a particular division or the whole business. What do you expect them to say? If the company is going through its death throes, they are looking for a buyer of the division/whole company. Announcing the company will wind up soon, will press down the price. When a company is dying, the top management is looking to cut payroll costs and anyone who tells the press that the company will wind up soon, will be conveniently fired - without the severance compensation package. So staff will keep mum or give the standard public relations reply that all is well, they are not going to close down.

I was at Funan last week so I just popped into one of the popular camera shops to check the current retail price for the EM5mk3 - $1.7k for the body alone. Wow, I am not sure how many would buy it at this price.

Yeah... I went to try it out too. Find it a little difficult to justify the price, now that E-M1 Mark II can be had for less than 1400 new, and similarly for G9. Of course, E-M5 Mark III is more portable.

Where to get E-M1mk2 for $1400?

I think he is referring to 2nd Hand Prices for the E-M1 mk2 and Panasonic G9.
The Brand New price for E-M1 Mk2 is about $2248.
I think the Brand New price for the Panasonic G9 is about $1899.

Both the E-M1 MK2 and G9 is targetted towards professionals and slightly more capable than
the Olympus EM5 Mk III.

At $1700, the EM5 Mk III has more than 90% of the features of the EM1 Mk III (including a sealed
body), I think it is very competitively priced.

I hope Olympus shuts down. Don't get me wrong, I've used the 2024, 3030, 4040, Em5 1 and 2, EP6, 7, 8 etc right up to OMD 1 mk1 and 2. Until Olympus didn't honor their words when the OMD 1 got a little water and stopped functioning. There goes the false ad about it being waterproof, snow proof, etc.
Having used tons of Canon, Nikon, and now Sony 63megapixel, have to say Olympus is way behind in cropping, imaging, low light, etc. Photos matter and if you edit as much as I do, you'll know what I mean.

Interesting point of view.

Olympus has poor tech support.
I had the XZ1.
Brilliant lens.
Lens malfunctioned 2.5 years after purchase.
Went to their office.
Was told lens unit no longer in production. Not possible to repair.
Was told to just buy a new camera.

Do take every manufacturer's claim on "sealed" with pinch of salt. I have a Sony RX10 which is supposed to be sealed, when when the plastic base plate chipped and I sent for repair, I saw moisture inside. In my opinion When you look at how slrs are built, it is almost impossible for it to be sealed. Although I continue to use sealed cameras and lenses, I always shield it from the rain. I always remember that "sealed" means for accidental spills only and helps to prevent dust. Dont depends to much on it!

I dont think that Oceandream comment is a fair comment. Try the camera out at any shop and see if you think it feels plasticky. It certainly feels solid for me, but I do not want it to be super solid with a magnesium body, as it would be much heavier.

Lots of products are made in China and vietnam, including iPhones, but they are solid product. It all depends on the Manufacturer Quality control at the factory.

Too little innovation? What is he expecting? This is the EM5 series. Common sense should tell him that the features will never be better than the EM1. Oceandream should wait for the EM1 mk3 if he wants better features.

For me, the EM5 mk3 meets all my requirements as an "Advanced Hobbyist". :)

I saw a seller on Qoo10 with stock apparently from Hong Kong. Not sure how reliable it is, though.

EDIT: I took a look at prices in Hong Kong, they are about HK$7100, roughly S$1250.

Local prices for G9 and E-M1 II are still high, unfortunately.

E-M5 Mark III's price in the US has dropped to $999. Looking forward to similar adjustments locally.

Actually this was the launch price in Singapore at $1350.
At this price, the EM5 Mk 3 sold like hot cakes. I think all
the 200 units was sold out within the same day.

Got to watch out for Olympus offers. Every now and then
they come out with some very good deals, probably
to get the stock moving.

 Didn't know that. But that's more like an ad campaign than "launch price".

It was a launch special. Didn’t quite sell out in a day but it ended b4 the promo period ended because it all sold out prior.
I wasn’t even looking to buy and almost put money down :D
