For those using K50/500 who are having the blackout pics/screen I got a solution. At the back of the lens there's a moving lever that control the aperture opening. Move it up & the lens opening 's the biggest. Insert a small piece of paper(indicated by white arrow) into the groove & the lever won't move back. Now put back in the camera & you won't have the blackout screen. Only problem is when shooting outdoors during daytime will get overexposed. Have to adjust accordingly. For me I used Manual mode on my K500

Sorry to say you have only forced the lever to be at full aperture hence the overexposure. This is the infamous aperture control problem affecting K30 and K50 models and perhaps K70. You may also have trouble when you try to sell this model when people know about the potential or inevitable problem online.
Really it's not a big deal, there are a few ways people say to "fix" it. Can see youtube.
1. No disassembly way... set to continuous mode and fire a quick burst of frames and hopefully it will jolt the component back to work.
2. Some disassembly to get the at the part and "disassemble" the metal plunger of the solenoid ( electro magnet) and file it down a little but
it must have a smooth finish or it will not work properly. See here.
3. Best way is buy the spare part ( solenoid) from china which is not expensive and replace the original one.

The over exposure is minimal & only with direct sunlight. I adjusted two of my lenses for my K500. This way don't need to change anything & that disassembly is not easy. At first that quick burst of frames at bright background or point at the sky works but gradually it didn't. I used my K500 for 3 years problem free & the black screen for one year. I had that same problem for my previous blue k-30 (one of them, as I had 3 K-30s and 1 K-50 through the years)
since the 2nd hand price is just around 200+, i just sold it cheap with my other lens, the pain of fixing is more than 200+.
my other friend also got issue for k50, and his suggestion is just buy those single digital pentax camera to avoid quality issue, like k5,k3,k1

What have you got to lose, use a crippled K50 or repair it granted you may screw it up and it 's not hard to open.

No thanks sir. Now my camera working just fine. I did the same thing for 3 of my lenses & my last shutter count is 39,248 taken last night
