Uncle KFC and the clown prince tag team ................ something's gotta to give. :)

Taxing e-com purchases is not something to worry about in the near term, it is potential raise in GST from 7% to 10%. The latter will be a killer.

The government is taking this opportunity to talk about raising GST because Singapore economy is doing very well this year, more than 3% GDP growth. With most people have deeper pockets this year, it is a good time to talk about raising taxes.

Before talking about raising taxes, should talk about fiscal prudence mar... according to ILO, in 2011, 38% of our workforce is public sector employees. The average across the OECD countries is 24%. That's 2011... I won't be surprised if it has grown.

Why do you need to practise fiscal prudence if the country GDP is solid, richest country in ASEAN despite being just a small dot. Secondly, it is politically motivated, more civil servants = more votes for the ruling party. Last but not least, the government can afford it.

This year bonus will be fatter than last year as Singapore economy beats expectations.

Yes, you may not enjoy the fruits of labour but it does not mean that the majority of the people did not.

No country in the World can let all its citizens to enjoy the prosperity of the country. Somebody will still fall out from the net. However, the majority will enjoy. This is political science.

if the gahmen can afford it, why do it need to raise GST ?
dont forget singapore economy is widely influenced by external factors.. it can swing quite wildly from time to time..
whats amusing is, once AI can take over the majority of work, what will happen to all those civil servant ? :)

Two scenarios regarding the issue of AI....#1... Civil servants will be relegated to the tasks of collecting cardboards, cleaning up after users at food courts and public toilets, etc. Gahmen will say that they are doing them a favor because they need some form of exercise or physical activity. This transformation is part of a program of making them into civilians like you and I. :p

#2, those "affected"civil servants will be seconded or upscaled to being system back-ups to AI ....just in case of power failure or signaling faults. But in the process, they will also be bestowed new befitting titles in accordance with seniority or number of years in the Service .... somewhat like your SM, MM, ESM, ahem... President ..... :).

..... It's not up to us to decide but your guess is as always as good as mine. :)

If gahmen want to take your money, what is there to stop them? They will even have you believe that it's ALL for your sake. :)

But have you ever wondered why they need so much money when we are already #3 richest country on planet Earth. ...... Apocalypse....

well to be fair, the nation's tax rate is among the lowest.. so it shouldn't hurt to raise income tax a few percent.
gahmen say its to prepare for ageing population, so you will benefit lah :bsmilie:

What makes you think I would benefit anymore than you would? :)

Care to provide who we are being compared to? Are we living among the same living standard with those we are comparing?
