Some rumours to kick things off... Wonder if they'll keep the same form factor.

Two sources shared some info about the new Panasonic GH5. They both said that there will be no “full” GH5 announcement at Photokina. This means there will be no full specs, pricing and shipment info of the camera. They are yet not sure but this could mean Panasonic will display a camera prototype with some “general” specs info instead.

And I can confirm the GH5 will ship in very early 2017! I should get first specs soon…stay tuned!

At last things are starting to get exciting around the new GH5! As reported yesterday the camera will be sort of “pre-announced” at Photokina and ship in very early 2017 (probably January).

And now we got a first spec info from a trusted source:

1) The camera has no crop for 4K
2) 4:2:2 10 bits internal recording!!!!

Panasonic has a press conference on September 19 where they will announce the new G80 (or G85 or whatever the final name will be), a new LX100 successor and show the GH5 prototype.

I almost wanted to sell my gh4 system to just concentrate on using 5d4 .... THEN I SAW 4:2:2 10 Bits! Like FKING HELL. No Cropping too!

I heard with the new 12mp sensor, the low light might improve 2stops too.

Why would i even want to use 5d4 when its going to crop 1.64x when using 4k. Canon is really becoming ancient with 120fps on 720p. Lol!

Looks like i have to continue with using 2 systems. Canon for photo & Gh5 for video.

By the time GH5 reach Singapore, it's probably 2018 liao ... :bsmilie::bsmilie::dunno:

hopefully got a body ONLY option, unlike the GX8 must buy the kit lens ...

1) The camera has no crop for 4K
Pardon my ignorance ...

What exactly does "no crop for 4K" means ? The GH5 itself is a m4/3 system with 2X crop ....

The present GH4 is how many times crop for 4K ?

Thanks

I think they just mean it has no further crop other than the native 2x...

You should know ma, if you still have your GH4, just toggle between HD and 4K in movie mode, you will see the difference. It's less wide.

Roughly 2.3x I think.

For a moment, I thought suddenly GH5 has no crop means become FF ... :bsmilie::bsmilie::bsmilie:

Having used the GH3 extensively, and then, the GH4, I wonder if Panasonic can do much more than fix performance problems.

If they can get AF to work well while the camera is busy, that would be a huge improvement for those of us who are not making films. It seems to work better during video capture than with stills, but it seems to be confused when the GH4 is busy.

Whatever they do, I'm sure it will be an improvement.

I have also used GH3 and now GH4. Good product.

Hope GH5 will continue to be greater than it already is ...

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem as though Panasonic knows what the GH5 will be, save a few specifications.

They're showing mockups, so apparently, the newer equipment is being tested in GH4 bodies.

I dislike the video button on top. It's fairly quick to press where it is. I also have the GX8 and it almost feels as though I have to stop everything. The good thing is that the focus point joystick has been added.

Panasonic has a lot to do--Olympus' E-M1 Mk II seems a winner.

Can't wait for the GH5.

GH5 can record continously until the SD card is full where as the E-M1 MkII can only record continuously for 29 mins.

But looks like gotta sell both my EM1 and GH4 to fund the purchase of E-M1 MkII and E-M1 Mk II

You need to record 60min of video so you buy two E-M1 mk2 ? :p

The recording length depends a lot on the sales location, due to taxes for video cameras.

To avoid the tax, camera makers have set the video clip length to 29:59.

I can't imagine that Panasonic will add the cost of the tax into the GH5's consumer price to allow video recording from 30:00 and longer. There is still so much unknown.

That is an EU levy, so for example, only the GH4 sets sold in EU had the recording time limit, but rest of the world got unlimited.... Other brands may not bother to make different versions, and just impose the same limit on all regions. But with Pana at least, so far it does not affect us and rest of the world, only EU? For example, SG sets had unlimited recording since GH2 I think.

Hi kandinsky, that's the beauty of Panasonic GH series ...

Been using since GH3 ....

many also suggested to overcome this on other model, record 29 mins then re-record again 29 mins ... tried this on the Sony Nex series before, it gets hot and blinking with warning & then it turns off by itself ....

Full specs on M43 rumours are out. (I can't post links yet though :bsmilie:)

Just got the EM-1 Mk2 and jealous of the GH5 Wifi 5G capability
