Film Fever

I was bitten by Film Bug about 9 months ago, trying to recover ever since. On a good days, I will just surf some website with regards to film photography, on a bad days, I would go out buy roll film and bulk loader. Recently, like to famous Godfather Mafia quote " Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back again". Now we are talking about buying a enlarger..:bsmilie:. I not sure where I will ended up..Just out of curiosity, Any one caught this Bug before?...any cure for this?:bsmilie:

BTW I'm no spring chicken...I start out with film in the early 90's..

Yes the cure is looking at the receipts of what you have spent on film.

Eye level viewfinder of a F2...simple triangle of fstop, speed, film speed...and the clankiness of it all. There is nothing digital anything like it.

Plenty of room for medium.

Got myself the camera model that my father got himself when I was born so that he could take pictures of me. The camera is now well above 40 years old. Just a nostalgic moment, might shoot a roll or two with it for fun. Mobile phone app 'Light Meter' helps to ease the guessing for exposure settings

I personally feel that most of us who have shot with film either love it or hate it after moving to digital. My first camera was a Nikon FM2 and 55mm Micro Nikkor bought back in 1993 which is still going strong today. I learnt on that camera the fundamentals of photography. When I made the switch to digital proper with the Canon EOS 350D, I never looked back. Do I miss shooting on film? Honestly, no. Do I miss the times spent in the darkroom messing about to get good prints? Not at all. I'll still say, film had a big part in my learning journey though. It made me understand light, shadow, tone, contrast, etc. But that's where it ends. I don't romanticise about what's clearly the past. I see it as part of my learning journey. So yes, to each his own. Some reminisce. Some don't. No right or wrong. For me, clearly it's the latter.

some prefer clean, non distorted digital sound with solid state.
some prefer noisy, warm, big soundstage vinyl sound with vacuum tube.
but both side will agree that good recording and good mastering is what make listening to the music is enjoyable...

I used to shoot slides. It was expensive not counting the film cost alone as I bracketed my exposures. one third of 36 exposures would go to waste. And there were the costs for processing, mounting frames and slide sleeves. For Kodakchrome the films had to be transported down to Melbourne for processing and it took 5 days if you're in Sydney. Another processing center in Southern Atmosphere would be in Tokyo.

I never understand film photography just like I never understand daguerreotype process, collodion process, dye transfer etc. if anyone wants to test me about the history of film processing. :bsmilie:

Started with film when my dad gave me his Rolleicord TLR and only left film in 2010. It's inevitable
if one want to progress with the technology.

It think mostly got to do with the nostalgic moment..I miss the day I took bus to PSS old club house at Geylang areas. Uncle Neo (God bless his soul)always reserved good lens for me..lol

Why everybody here got an FM2 or a Rolleiflex from their parents omg!! I started learning photography with a Sony a7 as it was my childhood's dream. And since the camera can adapt almost every lens, I bought a Contax Zeiss 85 f1.4 lens to try out, and kinda loved it. After buying the 2nd Contax Zeiss lens, the 50 F1.4, I was like why only use these on the Sony body but not trying them on those they're made for, hence a Contax 137MA body. Now I'm having a Contax G, Contax S2, Mamiya 645M and then sold for a Mamiya RZ67, and a box full of films. I haven't ever seemed to recover since then, even getting worse.

Digital is here to stay, it's afordable for everyone. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Just like in audio the black vinyl record, compact cassette tape vs CD (compact disk) and now MP3 (compressed audio file)or high definition type digital audio. Photographic film is a fetish but this term is meant for sexual matters but if you think it's sexy only you know..haha.Actually I do know but unless you already have invested in film and processing gear it may be uphill going for those who like to experiment with film. Cost and time is definitely an issue just as in the price of vinyl records now if new issue/release vs second hand.

In closing just like a fetish only certain people will buy into film.
