Canon EOS 80D

Nice shadow recovery. Sharp lens too. :)

A sample image of the Canon 80D - unfortunately I didn't think of bringing the 600D for side by side comparison.

What are the adjustment you done? Looks really nice.

Bryant, you really made the 10-18 sing.
Beautiful shots.

The rest of the adjustments were really up to my personal taste and preference, in addition to the basic adjustments above, I also adjusted:

1. ND gradient filter to the sky (lower exposure, recover more details in the sky)

2a. Brush strokes to the sky to recreate what was seen by the naked eye (warmer temperature and red-er tint), although this I admit was a little more enhanced that it actually was.

2b. Brush strokes to the water to further smoothen it and recreate the reflection of the sky (reduced clarity and boosted exposure).

2c. Brush strokes to the shoreline and trees to improve contrasting colours to the image (boosted saturation, cooler temperature, increased contrast and clarity to increase the fine details in the trees, rocks and water)

2d. Brush strokes to the post in the foreground (cooler temperature, increased clarity)

3. Various spot removal for random odd objects in the water (mostly rubbish like plastic bottles/bags floating around). No sensor dust as of yet.

4. Post-crop vignetting to further enhance the leading line (shoreline in this case) to the sunrise.

5. Noise reduction of 10 (ISO 100 only)

6. Sharpening of 90 and masking to exclude the sky and water (to keep the sky and water smooth and creamy while retaining everything else sharp).

To be honest although this is one of my favourite compositions to date, it is not the best in terms of technical photography. I was slightly disappointed that I did not account for the water to make the little dinghies in the background bob up and down so much that with a 4 sec exposure some of them a little blur. It's hard to see in the processed image but at 100% crop it's very obvious. But still, I'm glad you liked it! Hope I helped!

Thank you Snapdiner!! It's not easy to compose with a UWA lens but for some reason I always end up using this lens for landscape even though I have sharper lenses in my kit. I need to force myself to compose with other lenses!

I must be one of the rare crazy folks. Just picked up the 80D, ready to move back to APS-C land. Current implementation of DPAF allows me to use awesome classic lenses like the Sigma 30 mm f/1.4 DC and Tamron 17-50 f/2.8. Impressed.

Just realised that my 80D's shutterspeed seems to slow or become consistant and theres no change in speed when autofocus is activated & continuous focus is on. When I set to manual focus, the shutterspeed can really see difference. I am using a Sigma 120-400mm. Anyone have this problem?

I'm guessing you may have to upgrade the Sigma lens' firmware since the 80D is a way newer camera.

Hi wolvie, could it be the aperture setting or due to low lighting condition?

Think most likely len's autofocus. When set to manual focus, can see the difference in shutterspeed. Not sure if subject tracking is,the cause too. Since i'm shooting jets.

Good luck.. Sounds like sending it in to have it checked out should do the lens some good.

To be honest, I can't follow your idea. Why would autofocus or manual focus have any impact on shutter speed?
Or do you refer to the amount of frames per second?

Canon Sg promotion ending 26 June 16.
Bought my set with the STM gang.

Am a a7 user... But now letting go of my gear for this 80d simply because canon is still canon... Guess the best already...

Used Nikon
Canon
Olympus
Sony.

Still thinks that skin rendering is the best on canon. Am a portrait user and I'm gonna pair it with a 50mm f1.8

Such a advanced af system def covers all street n portrait perspective and giving the 1.6 crop does a fair compression making my 50mm a close to 85mm lens look....

Will be back for canon.

Welcome all to the 80D family!!

Apart from getting used to the poorer high ISO performance compared to my a7s, this 80D has been really great for me. Very happy with this.

After I bought the 80D, I felt comfortable enough with it to sell off my 5D3. It didn't feel like a downgrade at all because I gained a couple of megapixels, better DR and a touch screen that is simply easy and fun to use.

I'm speaking as a non-pro and I'm by no means implying that the FF is any less of a camera than the 80D.

Agree, now aday sensor technology is so good. Depends on what you really need. 80D should serve as well as FF, with good composition skill and post processing technique, plus the person behind this tool too :)

I find the internal exposure timer very handy, no need to insert external remote timer for bulb long exposure.
And the live view focus speed is impressive.

But the electronic level only shows 'roll' no 'pitch'.

What's wrong with Sony's skin tone? Care to elaborate more about the issue you have with A7?
I am a Sony user and so far I am happy with portrait pictures from A7ii.

Having fun shooting with your 80D? How many got it with the new 18-135 lens?
