Hi, I currently own a Nikon D5500. I am looking for a camera bag for travelling purposes. I only have the 140mm kit lens.

What brands should I look at? Since I want to get a bag for travelling purposes, I would prefer the bag to be small, offers some protection against shock and waterproof if possible.

Appreciate the advise and recommendation. Thanks!

You can consider the Lowepro Passport Sling II or III. I have used the II for about 3.5 years and it' going on strong.

Main selling points of the bag is its versatility and capacity. Do bring your kit along to the shop to see if it fits into the bag.

if you are only bringing one camera one lens only for travelling, it will be much easier to use a neoprene pouch instead, just put the camera in your day sling bag or backpack, you will have less things (bags) to carry and won't stand out at all.

or the lowepro event messenger series? i use that as my bag wherever i go.

or the thinktank urban reporter also can work.

They each have different sizes

They can easily accommodate a water bottle and umbrella and maps and what not =)

Hi! For the things you mentioned, theres few bags that could fit your needs and also different brands. Maybe you could start by thinking whether a sling style (messenger / over the shoulder ) bag, or even a backpack. Do you prefer to be discreet? Or easy access?

Like some has mentioned here, you can go take alook and see what you need to put in your camera/travel bag.

I've been using my Lowepro Passport sling for my everyday bag, with camera or not. Its versatile and lightweight and doesn shout 'camera bag'.

Maybe you can go online to see the brands/bags has to offer.
Some site even have filters for you to choose depending on what type/activities you want to use the bag for.
:)

i'm using billingham, super good! love the bag alot :D

Wrap it with a towel or your clothes..then put it in any bag.
Dont have to specially buy a camera bag just to put camera... especially if your gear is not alot.
if gear is alot..then perhaps you need a proper bag.. so u have the slots and divider etc.. else.. no need. Just any bag will do.

Wow thanks guys for the replies. Will definitely check out the recommendations!

I have done this for years...camera wrapped in tshirt and lenses in soft and hard cases. All of it stuffed in various different bags depending on what I was doing.

I tried but unwrapping lens can be dangerous especially with smooth surfaced lens and/or tee shirts

Haha, bags are a very personal thing, as the diverse replies above should tell you. Most of us go through more bags than we'd care to admit, looking for the elusive perfect one.
Me? I just get a removable divider and toss it into a generic messenger bag.

there are many ways to go about it..

You can check out the "bag in bag" bags, google crumpler haven s, m or L. basically these you just dump your gear into this mini camera bag and dump this camera bag into your bigger backpack. Just provides padding in the otherwise thin bag

Most camera bags are shockproof to some extent as they are meant to protect the camera

catchlights has a good suggestion but im not a big fan of those single neoprene bags as the neoprene will be cumbersome imo. Like have to hold it or let it dangle while you take a picture.

Crumplers are pretty good (waterproof) but they have a huge range if you count those discontinued ones as there are still good. 7 million dollar home is not a bad choice but the space inside will fit a lot. It can fit a 6D mounted with a 16-35 mk ii, 40mm, 85mm, 50mm, x100s, one water bottle, one umbrella all well but it also has the space for you to put papers like maps and tickets and the like.

Backpacks arent that good imo for your use as you only have one body and one lens. Backpacks can put a lot of lenses and bodies and they only give you a small amount of space on to put your jacket and water bottle and what not

Can PM me if you want more, i've gone through a decent number of bags. I carry my 7MDH for holidays and lowepro event messenger 250 for walking around fyi =)
