Personally... I'm all for having school children do some simply classroom/area cleaning like I used to do in the 80s.... too many Strawberries already... lets not product more...
I think we have bigger issues where education is concerned to deal with than kids not doing their chores.....

If one can't perform such tasks without a dent in the ego one cannot become a leader. Because they lead by example. Managers delegate.
Should perhaps teach the kids how to direct their maids so that they are more productive - focus on skills upgrading from Day 1, focus on leadership training rather than unproductive, outsourceable manual labour.
And what about those household without maid ?? Who are they supposed to 'Boss' over ?? :think:
Well, it is already common practice for many parents to point to such 'lower people' and say "if you don't study/excel/work hard, you will end up like them" to motivate their kids.

In olden days in Taiwan students were asked to clean toilets in schools.
Don't know whether they still do this or not.

Upgrade the cleaning skill of the children instead. It is a life skill and you do not depend on maid.

Perhaps we can let the kids go through mini-SISPEC or OCS so some of them can be the ones administering the stand by bed or stand by universe. This way they can prepare themselves for NS early in advance - leadership training! Plus the push-ups will help improve upper body strength so they can better deal with the weight of their school bags.
Good point to start doing away with these habits.
Sometimes I have the impression this is something leftover form the colonial era, now adopted by the local people... I hope I am wrong.

If we continue to send our brightest students to UK such colonial mentality will persist for generations to come.
They have lords, high tea, nannies and butlers there. Those who came back to Singapore longed for such aristocratic privileges.
Best to pack them to China or Taiwan to learn 四書五經.

I'm sure not all of those students are like that. I don't know though looking at that Amos kid it is hard to say what is going on with some crazy rebellious SG youth. I seen it on the internet therefore it is true. haha

Agreed with you wholeheartedly. There is always about 5% of the society who are anti-social. We need the law to go after them and we need to maintain a huge force just because of them ..... waste our tax.. but do we have a choice?
Labeling people as 'anti-social'? Be careful what label you might get one day and what the consequences might be.
It has always been the prerogative of the youth to break boundaries that the fathers and grandfathers deemed untouchable. It is one reason for progress in a society (among many others).
One can still go back to the very basic rule that also works here in the forum: 'Don't feed the troll.'
Not much different from other countries and other times. It's just blown out of proportion by two factors: the power of social media and the ego of some, causing the overreaction of the administration.
