Hi all
I plan to go Siem Reap this xmas. Anyone has guide at decent price to recommend?
This is not strictly a photography trip so no need to get a guide who specialize in organizing photography trip.

I never engage a guide. But if the purpose is to engage a guide and tell you the history of Angkor Wat or Siem Reap, you will be very hurriedly guided through. I like to explore the temple complex myself and take photos quietly and patiently. However, you can Google "licensed guide for angkor wat", several pages of information will show.

Just checking if any bro here have any good experience with any guide.
Engage a guide before, his name is Ta, some bro here would know him. Quite good, he talks to Cambodians to help you get shots of them. Make suggestions to you of the right time to be at certain area to get good lighting etc.
But his services has been quite expensive in recent few years. So I am looking for alternatives.

They charge usd over there, seems like not worth to go over. Better have small change as I heard that they might just keep the change on top of the profit. Wondering should USA declare they are under them? Just like would you willing to pay sgd in Malaysia or in their own currencies.

Anything vaguely commercial at Angkor they will ask you to pay permit... new system just announced. :/

Hmm you mean if we go there to conduct do photo shoot for business purpose then we need to buy permit?
Or are you referring to other things?

I am just there for a holiday and taking some photographs. Going with gf limits the number of time I can go for sunrise sunset shoots ... As she don't like to be in the sun or wake up early lol.

Any updates on the guides that you engaged ?

Thanks

Went Siam Reap early Dec 2015 with my family and sister's family.
We have a guide recommended by my brother in law colleague. This is the Trip Advisor link

http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attracti...e_Day_Tours-Siem_Reap_Siem_Reap_Province.html

His name is Sun Samesunsame99@gmail.com

He is Tour Guide and a Driver but not a photography Guide. He speaks good English even my kids can understand.

Email him and you can ask him more.

Best book him. Very friendly, Knowledgeable Guide and easy with timing and places.
:vhappy::cheergal::thumbsup: :)
