Hi all pro and hobby lovers here,

i decide to ge myself a camera for christmas and use it for photography each time i go oversea... For example next month i be in taiwan and i want shoot for sakura tree... I can't decide to got olympus EM1 or go for cannon 7D mark 2 or 6D.... i waiting for Christmas deal and i go buy it with instalment plan.... Hope i get some suggestion here from you guys

How about telling us something about yourself -- how much experience and knowledge you have in photography, what kind of photography you expect to do, etc.
If you're just shooting casual holiday snaps, I'd say get a compact (an enthusiast model like the Sony RX100) or a small DSLR/mirrorless and kit lens(Canon 100D, Nikon D3300, Panasonic GM5). For casual travel photos, lightweight and convenience are now my watchwords!

for travel i suggest m43 or other mirrorless

get the camera which has the best deal. you will be able to make great photos with whichever camera you choose.

If you are just intending to get a camera for this trip, you might want to consider spending the money elsewhere and just use a smartphone to shoot... The IQ from smartphone is pretty good nowadays. *and on top of it, don't have to worry about buying alot of additional stuffs that comes along with buying a DSLR/Mirrorless*

But if you are reaaaally keen to get one for travel, I'll suggest going light (e.g Mirrorless camera like E-M10, Sony A6000 etc). So, traditional DSLRs (e.g. 7d2 and 6D) won't be recommended due to it's weight and size. As for which model, kinda depends on the functionality you need from the camera.

After getting a mirrorless/dslr, you may want to consider other readings on
- Dry Cabinet (reduce the possibility of fungus growth on lens and camera)
- Tripods (You may not may not need this... no harm reading up :bsmilie: )
- How to operate your camera (important, you don't want to start figuring out how to use when you are travelling)
- Basic shooting techniques (e.g. how to hold your camera, basic framing of scene etc, alot of things to cover here as basic...)

**But if it's too much hassle reading all these stuffs, just buy anything and shoot and be happy :bsmilie:

carrying a DSLR for holiday trip is somehow overkill, unless your main goal of the trip is taking photos. and how often you go for travel each year if you get a DSLR just for oversea trips?

FYI, a DSLR is just a basic set up, if you have not own a DSLR before, unlikely you will know how many others accessories you will need to complement your set up.

so if money is not an issue, and you willing to carry extra few KGs, letting people wait for you to finish taking photos during the holiday trip, than get yourself a DSLR as Christmas present.

a dry cabinet for New Year Gift

a tripod for CNY present

another lens for Valentine's Day gift

a flash for Easter Day present

extra memory cards for May Day gift

upgrade your computer for June School holiday present

another new lens for National Day gift.

the list go on and on and on.......

Thanks for so many bros reply to my doubts and question. For this year i travel nearly every months been around thailand taiwan and vietnam. For next year actually Jan i will fly to taiwan and danang a beach in vietnam which is quite beautiful, march may and july also have book ticket already. My purpose of getting the camera is to travel and take photo of people and scenary.

But i have no knowledge of photography thought since traveling often now i learn how to take photo along the way and capture nice view and scene with it... Is very wasted each time i pass by some countries and just take with my iPhone haha

[if you do not have the time to really learn about photography, I would recommend the Panasonic Lumix FZ1000. Greatbimage quality from 25-600mm and even 1600mm.
It should cost not more thsn 1.2k now. No point getting a camera that has features that you do not how to use or would use.. If you really wish to learn about photography, then a Dslr is best as you can play with the manual mode to understand IsO, Aperture, shutter speed, etc. not all interchangeable lens camera will have true manual mode as some will automate one or two features for you even in manual mode.

Don't carry DSLR on holiday. U wan to show off and tell everyone that u r a tourist?

i saw megatax coming.... is it a good time to get deal from there?

Any Mirrorless or DSLR will do actually.
I suggest you get it with the kit zoom lens which should suffice till you think you want more out of the camera/hobby.

Perhaps consider a smaller camera rather than a biggish one if you want to travel lighter.
Plenty to choose from nowadays, no right/wrong most of the times with the choices, just preferences and what you think the camera can give you.

Hi raycher.

For travel, I would recommend Olympus. In addition, I would recommend 6D if you plan to shoot other general stuff.

Have you consider EM-10 or EOS 70D?

Merry Xmas!

if mainly use for travel, den don get 7d or 6d .
a7 series or a6000 good enough

If you don't mind the weight and size you can get any of the cameras you listed. They all will serve you well for some time to come. However as you have seen most seniors here from their experience suggest smaller set-ups because you can the same image quality at a fraction of the weight. As people say 'the best camera is the one that you have with you'.

Unless you have very specific purposes where equipment counts then it may make a difference, for example taking photographs of wildlife or sports...

Most people here get their camera stuff from the camera shops, and currently many are congregated around the Funan / Peninsular area. You can get a straight few hundred dollars off the recommended retail price... most big electronic retailers / IT shows sell at recommended retail prices but allow installment plans... you have to decide which is more cost effective for you :)

You mentioned that you are a beginner learning photography so that you can photos during your trips. There are 2 part in the making of a photo, the digital image captured by the camera and the editing on your computer.

I would suggest you get a light camera, the Olympus range with standard zoom lenses are good for this. Take plenty of photos, learn how to edit. If you like doing so after a while, continue with the camera you had chosen, or buy something else most suited to your interest and needs.

Lugging a DSLR is no fun when travelling. The smaller cameras are much lighter, and picture quality almost as good as the DSLRs.
