A shop with such sales behavior does not deserve the word 'trusted' - in my opinion.

I always dealt with the same guy at Alan photo. not pushy or anything and quite helpful. I guess it comes down to who you deal with. then again, still have to do homework just in case they pull a fast one on you . but don't think they will do that to jeopardise the long term relationship.

In my past posting, I was telling how AP tried to sell those cheapo lens converter for abt $260 to my friend. They behaved like those SL shops

I always deal with Kuna at Alan Photo, so far he hasn't tried to carrot head me and not pushy also (but still need to do own homework) Then one day, he wasn't there and I need to get a filter....so asked another guy for the price of the filter i saw elsewhere. quote me 15% more ex than other store and like damn gangster attitude. so don't buy lor....

I think the word "overcharging" is wrong to use.
U can only use this word for products that has a fixed price and publicly known. For example, u take a cab, and the actual fare is displayed on the meter. But the driver tried to make u pay more that the meter. That's overcharging with the intent to cheat.
Another example of a restaurant that has a food menu with stated prices, but they try to overcharged in the final bill.
U cannot say camera shop overcharging customers because there is no fixed price. It's up to the shop to quote the price. And its up to the intelligence of the customers to buy or not.
A tin of Milo is sold at different prices in NTUC, Giant, Seng Siong, Cold Storage, Jason's, etc
Are you also saying that some supermarkets are overcharging that tin of Milo?
I know from last time long long time ago. So I never go there one. Salesman changed a lot over the years, but Leopard never change. Because the management allow such behavior.
Did we ever hear of such problems from Cathay? No, because they are managed well.
Know what ur buying. Know the street price. Know if its gray market item or local supply. U can actually then buy anywhere. Point to note is do ur homework. There's always 2 sides to a coin. Buyer wants cheap, seller wants profit. Paying slightly more isn't too big a matter if ur satisfied. There's silly buyers just as there are nasty sellers... Be nice always, sometimes that's all it takes to get a good buy.
Very recently, I wanted to buy a compact cam battery. I called up a famous shop in Funan (No shop name here because I don't wan ppl to say I'm bias or trying to discredit but read further, u will roughly know this shop), quoted a third party brand $20, with one year warranty.
I felt OK. But I wanted to double confirm that it's the normal market price. So I called its branch in SL. (Now u know the shop name I'm talking about?). That SL branch quoted $30, for the same third party brand!!! 50% more than Funan branch.
So my alarms are all ringing! WTH, same company can charge diff price in diff branch? Ok, they r smart, but not too smart for smart customers.
So I called a diff shop (fixed priced shop) in Funan, another well known one, they quoted only $15 for the same third party brand with one year warranty.
It's so obvious which one I buy from.
So everyone, better buy things with eyes open. There is no such thing as best shop all the time.
Even famous shops can play tricks.

I've always bought my previous cameras from Alan Photo (SLS) in the past but it's also great to learn about other good alternatives like Cathay Photo, which appears very established and doesn't hesitate to provide quotations.
As with anything, it's best to do your own homework and call up the shops to price compare once you've decided on the model. My experience with Alan Photo has been mostly favourable over the years---they don't freak out when you ask to look at the camera and not buy immediately and are generally knowledgeable---but it sounds like they have do have a couple of rotten apples in their sales staff to watch out for. Be a wise consumer, do you own home work before you shop. not after you've bought it.

Be careful with AP. their pricing can be different from their 2 branches.
U may even get cheaper at their funan shop
in my experience, I've purchased units from 3:16, TK, Click and accessories from TK and I didn't have any issues. Cathay prices are competitive too, may soon buy from them. But I would stay away from Artwork - they make me feel that you're not welcomed - their next question when I ask for a quote would be "are you buying now or just asking?"....i quite don't understand why they would reply as such.
3:16 is no longer in business. And there are reports the owners still owe people money and equipment...

yes i'm aware that 3:16 has already ceased operations. that transaction was done years ago. i hope that the issues could be resolved for our unfortunate members.
the underlining message is "IF you are willing to close the deal NOW, I WILL make you a SPECIAL offer, if it is not, I will just tell you the STANDARD CANNED REPLY."
yes, i understand this. rephrasing my thoughts - why not answer with the 'special' offer the 1st time around and be done with it right? but that's just me...i can't really recommend them.
going back to the topic, also purchased a few accessories at red dot, no issues with them.
The salesman is doing the right thing.

Yes, maybe you should consider rephrasing your question in future if you don't want to get such reply. btw, tone and body language usually carrying the truth message than words.
